Silent Longing and Unspoken Love
He lay there watching her, admiring how sleep made her even more beautiful. Being together, their bodies sharing the same warmth, gave him a little peace. His heart burned with love and longing for her, yet he knew he could never force her under any circumstance. What he wanted was her love, not mere desire. He wished for everything to happen with her consent and willingness.
He longed to see the day when she would truly love him, even if only a little. He could see traces of that love in her eyes, though she herself might not realize it yet. A smile unknowingly escaped his face as he dreamed of that future.
He stayed awake until almost 1 a.m., then finally rose to take a shower and perform ablution before praying his usual voluntary prayers. Most of his supplications were for unity within their family and for Bilkisu’s love—the queen of women, as he teasingly thought. Eventually, sleep carried him away, filled with sweetness and beautiful dreams of a world where it was just him and his beloved Aymana.
Jealousy, Betrayal, and Emotional Warfare
That same night, Samiha cried until morning. She watched with her own eyes as he entered Aymana’s section and never came out, confirming that he had spent the night there. That day broke her completely—he even forgot to give her the sleeping tablet. She barely slept.
“What happened to you, my Meeha? Why are your eyes swollen? Did someone hurt you?” he asked repeatedly when he came to wake her for prayer.
She sat on the bed, leaning against it, her eyes red and lifeless from crying. She stopped him with her hand when he tried to touch her. “Don’t you dare touch me, you deceiver, liar, betrayer!” she shouted angrily.
He froze in shock.
“So you mock my intelligence, calling her worthless in front of me, yet you secretly sneak into her room, showing her love through deceit. You made me believe I was the only one, while you were lying all along. That’s why you tolerate her shamelessness—she has already shared your bed and lost all respect for you!”
“Enough!” he thundered, his face dark with anger. “Did I ever tell you I loved her? Or that I wouldn’t enter her room? Forget that completely. What you must know is that you and her have equal status before me. I married both of you, and I know whom my heart prefers. Say one more foolish word about this, and you’ll regret it—I see you still don’t understand my warning.”
He stormed out in rage. Samiha collapsed into fresh tears, overwhelmed and helpless. She didn’t even pray; instead, she called her mother, sobbing uncontrollably. Her mother promised to act, advising her to calm down and wait.
Later, comforted by her mother’s words, Samiha resolved to play along, hiding her pain and pretending nothing was wrong—while secretly plotting revenge. She endured Aymana’s provocations in silence, believing that when her plan succeeded, she would finally triumph.
Days passed with emotional distance, longing, and quiet suffering on both sides. He tried distancing himself, yet found no peace. She, too, tossed and turned at night, missing the warmth she had grown used to. When morning came and he knelt before her, resting his head on her lap, he pleaded softly:
“Please, Bilkisu, stop punishing us like this. I know you didn’t sleep last night either. Why are you hurting yourself and your husband? You love me, just as I love you. You’ve locked your heart and denied it what it wants, punishing us over something that doesn’t deserve this pain. Please, punish me in any other way—but this… this is the worst for both of us.”
