Rufaidah Part 1 Complete Hausa Novel
Filth and Constant Struggles: Aishatu in Distress
It was a hot day, a reminder of the hardships of life. Aishatu sat at the back of a public bus like someone trapped. Her filth prevented anyone from sitting near her. The other passengers stared at her with disdain, showing no sympathy.
As the bus neared a hospital, Aishatu said to the driver,
“There’s one here.”
But due to the horn blaring and the heavy traffic, he didn’t hear. The passengers shouted,
“Can’t you hear? It’s your stop!”
They stopped arguing, giving her space. An elderly woman held her nose and said,
“Girl, you should bathe, please!”
The driver responded,
"Your attitude is filthy, clean up if you want to be treated with respect."
A Broken Heart
Aishatu didn’t respond. She got off the bus, struggling to make her way, feeling a heavy ache in her chest. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she wiped them away with the edge of her hijab. Though she was used to being treated with scorn, today it felt especially painful.
A Hospital Full of Hope: AMC
Aishatu arrived at the gates of AMC – Assalam Medical Centre. This was the hospital her Aunt Lawisa had recommended. She looked at the building, her heart filled with dreams of health and a life of dignity.
As she entered, she passed by two women chatting. When she greeted them, they responded with irritation. One of them said,
"What's that smell? Did you forget your flask yesterday?"
The other replied,
“It’s probably your shoes. I think it's this girl who's causing the stench.”
They began to stare at Aishatu, making her feel more uncomfortable. She remained silent, standing still and composed.
Greetings from Nurse Risikat
After a while, a nurse approached. Her name was Risikat. Aishatu greeted her,
“Aunt Lawisa sent me.”
Risikat smiled,
“Oh, you’re the one? She calls you her ‘sister.’ You're lucky, the doctor is in. But you’ll have to wait in line.”
She looked at some women sitting with an air of superiority.
"You’ll open a file and pay a fee of two thousand naira, plus one hundred and fifty for seeing the doctor."
Aishatu opened her bag and counted the money her father had gathered by selling four goats.
The Girl Who Was Shown Kindness
After paying, Risikat showed Aishatu where to sit.
“Wait here, they’ll call you. If you need anything, let me know. Lawisa helped me a lot in life, and I’ll never forget her kindness.”
Aishatu thanked her, feeling a warmth in her heart. This was the first time anyone had shown her care without contempt.
Reflections on Life and Dreams
As she sat quietly, Aishatu reflected on her life. She dreamed of getting well, marrying, and living a life full of respect. But illness and hardship had kept those dreams far out of reach.
She glanced down at her bag – inside, there was a small envelope tied with cloth. It contained the hospital fees and a note from her father:
> "Endure whatever you encounter, Aishatu. I pray Allah grants you health. We’re praying for you."
A Life Filled with Trials
This note strengthened her resolve. Even though she was in pain and feeling discouraged, with the note and Risikat’s kindness, the burden on her heart seemed lighter.
She lifted her gaze and looked up at the sky, hoping that one day everything would change. That one day, she would be able to walk proudly, her head held high, without the judgment of others.
