ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

“Zainab, come and sit down. Why are you leaving? Let me talk to you,” Goggo called after her.
Zainab replied irritably,
“Goggo, please stop this talk. Out of all the girls in this house, why is it always me you choose?”
Goggo sighed and said,
“Come on, Zainab. Honestly, refusing such a thing is a serious mistake. Besides, girls these days love soldiers… and he’s a handsome young man too.”
Zainab stood up angrily and walked out of Goggo’s room, grumbling under her breath.
She headed toward Aunty Amarya’s section of the house. As soon as she arrived, she saw Ya Kabir lying comfortably on a long chair, staring at his phone.
She frowned deeply and tried to pass by into the room, but he stopped her immediately.
“Hey! Come back here!”
Reluctantly, she walked toward him with a pout on her face.
“So in your manners, you don’t know you’re supposed to greet people when entering a place? Not even salam?”
She remained silent and turned her face away. Truthfully, she didn’t even like looking at him.
He frowned.
“I’m talking to you. Go back outside and enter properly with greetings.”
As if she had been waiting for that opportunity, she quickly turned and walked away.
Kabir clicked his tongue and returned to lying down.
It was a huge family house packed with relatives — siblings, cousins, grandchildren, and even grandparents all living together.
Zainab continued walking until she reached Mummy’s section of the house — the mother of Ya Kabir, Safeena, Jamil, Hanan, Balkis, Ibrahim, and the others.
When she entered, she found Safeena eating.
She sat beside her and joined her meal.
Safeena asked,
“Where are you coming from?”
Since she and Zainab were age mates, they spoke casually.
Zainab replied,
“I went to Aunty Amarya’s place. Your brother was trying to annoy me again.”
Safeena laughed softly.
“You’re always complaining about Ya Kabir. Anyway, he’ll be traveling soon, so maybe you’ll finally have peace.”
Zainab quickly responded,
“Honestly, the sooner he leaves, the better for me. He’s your own problem, not mine.”
They continued eating while changing the topic entirely.
As Zainab stepped outside afterward, she bumped into Isma’il — Mama’s son, the brother of Sadiya, Hafsah, and Idris.
She greeted him politely.
“Ya Isma’il, welcome back.”
He smiled.
“Thanks, Zee. Where are you headed?”
“I’m going to sleep. I’m tired.”
They chatted briefly before each went their separate ways.
As she approached the room again, she suddenly found Ya Kabir standing with Safiya — Aunty Majiddah’s daughter — behind the corridor near Aunty Amarya’s room.
Safiya was clinging tightly to him while pouting sadly.
An intense wave of annoyance swept through Zainab as she stood watching them.
Kabir gently lifted Safiya’s face and said softly,
“Come on Safiya, why are you getting emotional just because I’m traveling? I’ll come back after handling a few things over there.”
Zainab hissed quietly under her breath and thought bitterly:
“Useless girl… stressing herself over him for nothing.”
Seeing that their emotional moment wasn’t ending anytime soon, she angrily walked past them into the house.
Inside the sitting room, she found her mother — the mother of Haneef, Zainab, Humaira, Tsalim, and Husna — braiding Husna’s hair.
Without saying much, Zainab walked straight into their room looking upset, like someone who had just been offended badly.
