ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

Breaking News and Bilkisu’s Shock
“Remove him… remove him… remove him. Remove Saifuddeen Kachallah, remove Governor Kachallah.”
“These are thugs who disrupted the opening ceremony of Congo Stadium that took place earlier this morning. As you can see, they were throwing stones everywhere, but we’ve received reports that the Governor managed to leave the venue safely…”
Bilkisu Kachallah quickly switched off the television, her heart pounding violently. For the umpteenth time, she dialed the Governor’s number again, only to find it switched off. Tears streamed down her face—she wasn’t one who cried often. In fact, she couldn’t even remember the last time she had cried.
“No one can remove you from that seat, no one. They’re lying. You’ve never harmed a woman—I can bet my life on that. Saifuddeen, please turn on your phone.”
She was angry with him and wanted to fight with him, yet love was one thing she had given Saifuddeen long before she knew better. As long as she was breathing, she would never allow anyone to destroy him.
She wiped her tears and dialed another number. “Find out who Lami Ninja is.”
As she said that, she stood up and walked into the room. She intended to go to Kachallah House—perhaps he would pass through there. Her heart would not be at peace until she saw him.
Asiya, the Accusation, and a Buried Past
Asiya had long been expecting the Governor’s call. He should have seen her messages by now. She wanted him to call her, to insult her, to call her a hypocrite, a snake, a wicked woman—just as she used to call him. Why didn’t he seek protection? Why did he stay until they came for him?
When her phone rang, she answered without checking the caller ID. “Hello, Excellency.”
“I hope you’re satisfied with what you’ve caused. Fear God, Asiya. Fear God.”
The call ended abruptly.
She slowly removed the phone from her ear. “Ubayd, forgive me. I admit I made a mistake. But even if the Governor divorces me, I won’t leave until I clear his name. I promise.”
But who exactly was Lami Ninja?
She called Fou’ad Salisu. “Fou’ad, who is Lami Ninja?”
“I started investigating as soon as I heard the news. So far, I’ve discovered her full name is Lami Haladu. She attended Congo University when the Governor was teaching there. I’ve asked people to find out where she is now and the reason behind this accusation, but I haven’t received feedback yet. I’ll keep you posted.”
Later, the truth slowly resurfaced in the Governor’s mind. Years ago, while he was teaching at Congo University, many female students tried to entice him—some with pretended love, others openly. His office was constantly filled with letters from women. That was why he eventually banned female students from entering his office.
One particular student stood out—a girl who behaved provocatively during his lectures. She once gained access to his office and confronted him naked, attempting to coerce him. When he refused, she threatened to accuse him falsely. The incident became a scandal at the time but was buried and quietly resolved due to his family’s influence.
Now, years later, the same incident was being resurrected.
Political Manipulation and Confrontation
Lami Ninja had been sheltered in Umaru Kwom’s house since she arrived in the state. Umaru Kwom had spent years digging into Saifuddeen Kachallah’s past, searching for anything that could bring him down. When he found Lami, now involved in criminal activities in Lagos, he forced her to accuse Saifuddeen publicly, threatening her with exposure and imprisonment if she refused.
“What if they find out I’m lying?” she asked.
“You’re a woman. No one will doubt you,” he replied.
Meanwhile, Asiya went to the Governor’s house after learning he was there but didn’t want to see anyone. Her heart raced as she climbed the stairs. She unlocked the door and found him seated on the bed, calm, writing—nothing about him suggested a man under attack.
“Did you come to check if my heart has stopped beating?” he said without looking up.
She fell to her knees. “I know you may not believe me, but I swear I had no idea about these accusations until today. I didn’t write them. Forgive me.”
He looked at her. “As a father, I don’t think I can forgive you anytime soon. As a Governor, I’ll allow you to continue being a campaign tool.”
“Please,” she said, “even if you divorce me, let me clear your name first.”
