ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
As soon as we arrived at the entrance of our house, she dropped me off and drove away. Baba, the security guard, was sitting on the bench; I greeted him and walked past. The moment I stepped into the house, before I could even reach my room, Mum said, "Hurry up, put your things away, and come cook dinner for us."
I replied, "Okay."
After coming out, I said, "I swear I'm so hungry, Mum. Please let me eat something first, then I’ll cook for you."
"Good grief! You didn't eat while you were out roaming? Because I know you weren't at school," she sneered. "Right now, I don't have any food to give you in this house, so you'll have to figure that out yourself. Just make sure you get my dinner cooked."
Hot tears began to stream down my face. Yaya Fauzi came over, took my hand, and said, "I'm so sorry, Fatima. I swear I hate how Mum treats you. Come, let me cook some Indomie for you."
Forcing a smile, I replied, "Don't worry, Yaya Fauzi. I have some Cornflakes in my room, I'll just go have that."

Today, I had an early morning lecture. I woke up early, prepared breakfast, and then went back to tidy up my room until everywhere was absolutely spotless. Checking the time, it was 8:30 AM. I quickly took a shower and dressed in a beautiful maroon lace outfit.
I looked really nice as I walked over to the dining area. Mum and Fauzi had already finished eating. When I opened the food flasks, they were completely empty; they had finished all the Irish potatoes and plantains, leaving only some leftover bread—and I don't eat bread. Since I was already running late and didn't even have time to cook Indomie, I just grabbed my veil and left.
Despite how much I hurried, Dr. Mumtaz still beat me to the classroom. We didn't get along at all because ever since he told me he liked me, he had targeted and picked on me. Fortunately, I wasn't the only one running late, and we lucky few were let inside. He warned us, however, that during his next lecture from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, he would be conducting a test, and absolutely no latecomers would be allowed in.
After we dismissed, I had nowhere to go, as our next lecture wasn't until 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Taking a leap of faith, I headed back to the edge of the garden where I usually sit because it is such a conducive and pleasant environment.
Sure enough, I hadn't been sitting there for more than twenty minutes when he pulled up in his luxury, latest-model Mercedes-Benz. Immediately, I saw the groundskeepers rush over, bowing respectfully to greet him. They unloaded some exquisite food flasks from the car along with a large, plush carpet, which they spread out on the grass.
Instead of sitting down, he walked straight toward me.
"You again? Why don't you ever listen? Didn't I tell you not to come here?"
"For goodness' sake, who even are you in this school?" I retorted. "I am a student just like you, so why do you hate me sitting here?"
"Because only my friends and I hang out here."
"Then please, have mercy on me. I swear I've been sitting here for over a month and no one has ever complained, so I've gotten used to it. I hate noisy places and I can't relax around crowds. I only have two friends in this school—one lives in the hostel, and the other lives in my neighborhood. So please, overlook this and let me sit here, even if it's just as a favor."
A smile spread across his face, revealing his brilliant white teeth, before he said, "Alright, I yield."
He walked back, sat on the carpet, served his food, and began to eat. He wrapped some peppered chicken and snacks in foil paper, grabbed a can of Don Simon juice, and brought them over to me. I was about to reject it, but when he gave me a piercing look, my hands trembled and I accepted it. However, I couldn't bring myself to eat in front of him, so I went to the mosque to eat, especially since I hadn't eaten breakfast.
By 2:00 PM, we headed back for our next lecture.
