ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

I can see a young woman sitting on a mat, ironing clothes. From the look of it, they were her husband’s clothes she was pressing. That was Muhibba, who had not been married for more than five months.
Her home was a modest one, because the man she married was not wealthy. It had one sitting room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a toilet. Her husband, Abdulmajeed, was a primary school teacher. They were managing and living under Allah’s shelter and provision. Theirs was a love marriage.
Muhibba was very kind and generous, and cleanliness was something she was known for. If you entered her house, you would hardly want to leave because of how fresh, clean, and pleasant-smelling it was.
As she was ironing the clothes she had washed for her husband, she heard a knock on the door. Raising her voice, she asked, “Who is it?”
She heard another knock, but no one answered.
She stood up and walked toward the door to see who was knocking. She was wearing a long gown, wrapped properly, without a scarf on her head. She stopped behind the door, opened it slightly, and peeped out to see who it was.
Suddenly, her heart dropped and her body began to tremble when she came face to face with a very fair-skinned woman. The woman was tall, with very large eyes beyond description. Her height too was unusual, and her fairness was striking. Her eyebrows were reddish, and so were her lips.
The woman smiled at her and said, “Please forgive me for disturbing you by knocking on your door. I really need to urinate, and I want you to help me. I do not know anyone around here.”
From the moment the woman began speaking, Muhibba’s heart started pounding even more, and she could not even recite a prayer, because the woman’s appearance was frightening. She could honestly say that in all her life, she had never seen anyone with such a height.
Trying to compose herself, she said with trembling lips, “No, it’s okay. Come in and use it.”
The woman quickly entered and stood in the middle of the compound. Muhibba, on the other hand, felt like running out of the house because a strange fear had completely overtaken her. She wanted to pray, but could not.
Gathering courage, she led the way toward the bathroom and said to her, “Bismillah, here is the bathroom, and there is water inside.”
Then she saw the woman moving toward her as though she was not walking normally, but as if something was pushing her forward. Muhibba stared at her in extreme fear and panic. Quickly, she looked down at the woman’s feet and saw no sign of feet at all, only the long gown she was wearing dragging along the ground.
Muhibba’s body shook violently. Before she could do anything, the woman slipped into the bathroom and shut the door.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” Muhibba said in deep fear and dread.
She hurried toward the entrance and stood by the door, staring at the bathroom. Everything was quiet. The woman had not come out.
Fear gripped Muhibba even more. She raised her voice and said, “My sister, are you still not done yet?”
There was silence. No answer came.
That made her run out of the house at once and head toward the house opposite hers. It was the house of her neighbor Surayya, with whom she had a very good relationship.
She began knocking on the door quickly while glancing back toward her own house.
“Surayya, open the door!”
Surayya did not open until she asked, “Muhibba, are you sure it is you?”
“Yes, of course it is me. Hurry and open for me.”
Surayya opened the door cautiously and peeped out. From the look of her, it was obvious she too was frightened. Muhibba quickly rushed inside.
Before Muhibba could even speak, Surayya said, “So you saw her too?”
In deep fear, Muhibba asked, “Who?”
Surayya quickly replied, “Didn’t you see a very fair woman who looked like a jinn? She came to my house too, saying she wanted my help because she needed to urinate. I quickly shut my door because wallahi, if you saw her, she did not look human.”
From the moment Surayya began speaking, Muhibba’s body started trembling even more, and her heart pounded without stopping. Forcing herself to speak, she said,
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un, Surayya, I am finished, I am ruined. Wallahi, she came into my house. Since she entered my bathroom, she has refused to come out till now. I am in serious trouble.”
