ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
Every day, Hauwa’u would call Adamsy about their love, but he always ignored her. Eventually, today, he decided to go to her house.
She was sitting in the living room with her mum and her two younger brothers, chatting, when her phone rang. She slowly turned to look at it and saw that Adamsy was calling. Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at the screen. Adamsy had never called her before—she was always the one calling him. Sometimes he would pick up if he felt like it; if not, he wouldn’t answer no matter how many times she called. When she confirmed it was truly him, she jumped up in excitement and let out a scream that drew everyone’s attention in the living room. They all looked at her in surprise, asking what was wrong. She quickly ran to her room and shut the door.
She answered the call and fell onto her bed, saying,
“Hello… is it really you calling me, or am I dreaming?”
He smiled and said,
“What kind of dream is that?”
“I’ve been praying for the day you would call me. It means you’ve finally started accepting the love I offered you.”
“Don’t get too excited.”
They had never chatted freely like this before, but today they talked a lot, and she was very happy about it. At the end, he asked her to send him her home address. She immediately sent it, her heart filled with joy.
After the call, she went back to the living room where her mum and brothers were. Her mum noticed how happy she looked and asked,
“What’s making you this happy?”
“Mum, of course I’m happy. The man I always call—the one who only answers when he feels like it and makes me worry about him—today, for the first time, he called me. And he even asked for our home address. He’s coming tomorrow.”
Her mum clicked her tongue in annoyance.
“As a girl, you’re the one chasing a man instead of the man chasing you? Where is your pride? A woman should have dignity. Honestly, you’re disappointing me. What kind of man is this?”
“Mum, I just feel sorry for him. He’s the one whose wedding to Fauziyya was canceled when she said she didn’t love him on the very day of their marriage.”
“So you want your friend’s ex-husband now? Did you always like him?”
“Well… I liked him the first time I saw him, but I never thought of anything. But when my friend humiliated him on their wedding day, I felt bad for him. Honestly, Mum, he’s very handsome—you haven’t seen him. He’s tall, fair, well-built, and his beard suits his face. If you saw him, you would—”
Her mum cut her off sharply.
“Stop it! Am I your mother or your friend, that you’re sitting here describing the kind of man you like? Have you no shame?”
She lowered her head, laughing softly.
“But Mum, you asked me…”
“I didn’t ask about his looks. And be careful—what matters isn’t physical beauty, but good character.”
“Yes, he has good character too.”
“Have you lived with him to know that?”
She simply shook her head without saying anything.
The next day, just as Adamsy had promised, he came to their house. Hauwa’u was overjoyed. They talked at length, and he told her everything that had happened in his life, including his past marriage. He hid nothing from her and made it clear that if she accepted him as he was, then that was it.
Within a month, everything concerning their wedding was settled. Only seven days remained until the ceremony, and preparations were underway on all sides.
The night before their wedding, at around 2 a.m., the bride’s friends suddenly ran out of her room in panic. They quickly shut the door behind them as loud crashing and breaking sounds came from inside.
They rushed straight to her mum’s bedroom, banging frantically on the door and crying. Hauwa’u’s mum, who had relatives visiting from Abuja and sleeping in the room, woke up in alarm at the noise. She got up quickly and opened the door, saying,
“What’s wrong at this hour of the night? What’s happening in my house?”
One of the bride’s friends burst into tears and said,
“Mum… Hauwa’u has gone mad.”
