Description
A Worried Girl and a Sick Father
She walked quickly, and from her face you could clearly see worry.
She was a young girl, not more than eighteen years old.
She entered a modest house and found them gathered around their father, comforting him.
As soon as Na’ima entered, she looked at her father lying weakly and said,
“Sorry, Baba. How are you feeling?”
“Yes, Na’ima… where is Hassan?” her mother asked.
Before she could answer, Hassan greeted and entered, rushing to where Malam Yahaya was lying.
“Sorry, Baba. How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine, Hassan. Alhamdulillah.”
“Has your condition worsened again?”
Their mother replied,
“Hassan, please go to Salanke and get medicine now. We will prepare it for him—maybe, by Allah’s will, he will get better.”
Hassan said,
“Okay, Mama, but I don’t have money, not even for transport, let alone medicine.”
Before she could respond, Malam Yahaya said,
“Mariya, take the remaining sack of maize and sell it. Use the money for transport and buy the medicine.”
Recovery and Joyful News
Within ten minutes, Hassan took the sack of maize to the market, sold it, and traveled to Salanke.
Since the distance was not far, he returned within an hour.
His mother quickly took the medicine, prepared it, and asked his younger sister to cook it.
By Allah’s will, as Malam Yahaya took the medicine, he began to feel relief. His body gradually relaxed.
Alhamdulillah, within three days, he recovered greatly.
He sat with his family, happily chatting and telling stories.
Hassan entered, carrying a bag on his back, and sat beside him.
After greeting, Hassan said,
“Baba, today is my departure. You remember the exam we took—my name has been selected. Today, they are calling us to come.”
“Masha Allah!” Malam Yahaya said happily.
“I am very glad to hear this. May Allah guide you, bless you, and give you someone who will replace me, just as you have been like a son to me. Thank you so much for your care—”
He was interrupted by greetings.
His four elder siblings entered.
He welcomed them warmly and asked them to sit.
After greetings, Jimmai said,
“Ya’u, tell him why we came.”
Ya’u adjusted himself and said,
“Yahaya, concerning Na’ima’s marriage—we have decided that by the end of this month, she will be married to Gali.”
A Forced Marriage and a Painful Loss
Shock filled the room. Na’ima, her father, and her mother all looked frightened.
“We are listening, Yahaya,” Rabi’u said.
Malam Yahaya sighed and said,
“There is no need to rush. Na’ima does not want Gali, so why should she be forced—”
“You are lying!” Rabi’u interrupted.
“We did not come for your opinion. We came to inform you. Prepare her—she will marry Gali at the end of the month.”
Na’ima’s father tried to speak again,
“I only fear what may happen in the future…”
“Enough!” Rabi’u said. “Let’s go.”
Na’ima quickly held Jimmai’s leg and cried,
“Aunt, please help me. I will marry anyone, but not Gali—”
Before she could finish, Ya’u slapped her.
Shaking with fear, she held Rabi’u’s leg,
“Uncle, please don’t marry me off—”
Rabi’u pushed her hard.
Her mother tried to catch her, but she fell to the ground in pain.
She screamed, and blood came out of her mouth.
Malam Yahaya cried,
“Please forgive me, I cannot marry her to someone she does not want.”
Jimmai replied,
“Marriage is from Allah. It is already decided.”
They left.
Malam Yahaya broke down in tears.
His children gathered around him. Hassan helped him sit and said,
“Please, Baba, stop crying.”
Na’ima looked at him and said,
“Baba, please stop crying. I agree, I will marry Gali.”
He shook his head,
“No, you will not marry him.”
He tried to stand but suddenly began coughing violently and collapsed.
Na’ima rushed to him,
“Baba, please calm down. I will marry him.”
Through his coughing, he said,
“Na’ima… if I am your father… you will not marry Gali…”
He tried to continue, but the cough stopped him.
He reached out to his wife.
With a weak voice, he said,
“Mariya… even after my death… I do not accept this marriage…”
His words became unclear, and then they heard only his final declaration of faith.
His wife shook him in shock—
but he had stopped breathing.
