ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
It was a grand hotel, famous, prestigious, and luxurious, one of those hotels that many Nigerians are familiar with. For the people of Kaduna, it had become a source of pride, because at that time there was no hotel in the whole of Kaduna as happening and outstanding as it. The hotel was renowned simply because it was beautifully built and exquisitely arranged, from the main gate right into the compound. And the stories only got more impressive once you entered the hotel rooms. There was also very tight security in the hotel. In short, anyone you saw there was definitely wealthy, because it was a hotel meant for the rich and influential.
I headed straight for the dancing hall, where I saw a brightness as intense as daylight even though it was deep into the night, around 12:10 a.m. It felt just like midday. The hall was extremely large. Before I even fully entered it, the sound of Naira Marley’s song Common was already echoing loudly in my ears, because the huge speakers placed all around the hall were no joke. If you were not careful, even your intestines would seem to vibrate from the noise.
In the middle of the dance floor were young women and young men dancing wildly. Every woman you saw on the floor was dressed with almost no modesty at all. Some wore only pants and bras, others wore very tiny tops, some had only panties on with flimsy bras that barely covered anything, while others I could simply describe as naked, because the full figures Allah had given them were on display, from their breasts down to their buttocks. Their heads were adorned with long, horse-tail-like hair extensions. They danced while the men held them tightly, supporting them and squeezing their breasts.
At one side, there were others standing around, men and their girlfriends embracing each other. Some were sucking each other’s tongues while touching one another’s bodies. Others were women clinging to fellow women, swaying and pressing closely together in playful intimacy.
Some people were seated on the beautifully decorated chairs that furnished the hall, luxurious chairs with elegant tables placed between every two, three, or four seats. The place was packed full of people, with hardly any room left. Almost all the seats were occupied, leaving only a few empty ones. Everyone seemed busy with their own pleasures. Some tables were filled with bottles of alcohol, others were covered with bottles of codeine, while at some tables they had placed pots of shisha in the middle and were busy puffing away. Others were simply drinking soft drinks while watching the dancers in the center of the floor.
Because there was abundant light everywhere, the whole place glittered. They never allowed darkness; even if the electricity went out, the generator would come on within seconds. Everywhere you looked there was brightness and sparkle. Beautiful flowers that shone like lights themselves added to the atmosphere. The hall had been lavishly decorated with all kinds of ornaments and designs. The hotel staff moved about constantly among the guests, both male and female, each one dressed in clothing bearing the hotel’s name. They moved around attending to anyone who needed something, because they even rented out shisha there
