ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

They stood over her, laughing mockingly. One of the girls standing close to her began to speak in between laughter:
"You’re useless now. This is how you’ll end your life—married to a thug who has troubled everyone. Who knows, maybe you even met him during all that promiscuity you’re used to, and he followed you home. Honestly, we’ve been disgraced—bringing shame to our family name. Only God knows how far the shameful things you’ve done have spread."
"That’s not even it, Zee. Her father is even proud and arrogant, marrying off this worthless girl."
They continued mocking and insulting her. She lowered her head, tears streaming down her face. In her heart, she wondered what kind of life this was—she found no comfort anywhere, no one loved her, no one cared about her. Why would her own father be among those ruining her life? She was tired of this life, filled with nothing but sorrow and selfish people.
She raised her head when she heard what Zee was saying:
"Samhad, as for you, you’ll never know happiness again. You’ll only see it in others. Take this marriage as a destiny that will lead you to death. The house you’re going into—consider it like a grave. I swear, from today—no, from this very moment—you’ve said goodbye to happiness. Others may have it, but not you."
She finished her statement with a hateful look at Samhad.
Shaking her head, Samhad spoke through her sobs:
"I believe in my Lord—no one gives life or takes it except Him. And everything that happens to me, I believe it comes from Him. Aunty Zee, I have already entrusted my affairs to Allah. I know Allah loves me, since He made me a woman and a Muslim. Let me remind you of something—marriage is by the will of Allah. If He has destined it for you, it will surely happen. You are an example yourself—you’ve wanted to get married for years, but Allah has not willed it yet. You used to mock me, saying no one would marry me and that I’d end my life alone. But remember, Allah is the One who plans everything. Alhamdulillah—even if this is how it ends, I’ve gained something, because I know I’ve moved ahead while you remain behind, you pampered and favored daughter."
She ended her words with a smile at Zee—one that made Zee’s heart pound intensely.
Haneefa looked at Zee and pulled her hand, leading her outside. Not long after they left, Samhad broke down into uncontrollable sobbing, her whole body trembling from the intensity of her cries. Slowly, she reached out her hand to a photograph, gently caressing the cheek of the person in it, smiling softly as if expecting them to respond.
