Rayuwa: A Story of Struggles and Hope
A Village Filled with Dreams
In the small village of Katsalle, Malam Mukhtar lived with his two wives, Lami and Aysha. For ten years, Lami was unable to bear children. Out of desperation, Malam Mukhtar married Aysha, hoping to have children. This decision shattered Lami’s heart, making her resentful towards Aysha.
The Birth of a Daughter
Nine months after the marriage, Aysha gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Hibbatuallah (Hibbah). Instead of celebrating, Lami became even more bitter. She sought the help of a sorcerer, who gave her charms to make Malam Mukhtar despise Aysha and her daughter.
A Mother’s Struggle
Lami’s wicked plan worked. Malam Mukhtar turned cold towards Aysha and Hibbah. He refused to enter their room, talk to them, or show them any kindness. Meanwhile, Lami was later blessed with a daughter of her own, Rahmatu, whom she showered with love and attention. Aysha was reduced to nothing more than a servant in her own home.
Hibbah’s Hard Life
Hibbah grew up facing cruelty. While Rahmatu was pampered, she was treated harshly. Lami forced her to do all the house chores and even deprived her of schooling. Whenever Hibbah tried to read, Lami would punish her, claiming that she was wasting time.
Hope in the Midst of Darkness
Despite her hardships, Hibbah found comfort in her mother, Aysha. Aysha always encouraged her to be patient and to trust in Allah. She reminded Hibbah that life was full of tests and that one day, things would change for the better.
A Wicked Plan
Lami could not stand the sight of Hibbah and her mother living under the same roof. She convinced Malam Mukhtar that Aysha was unfaithful, accusing her of a sin she never committed. Without thinking twice, Malam Mukhtar divorced Aysha and threw her out of the house.
Separation and Sorrow
Aysha cried bitterly as she was forced to leave without her daughter. Hibbah begged her father not to separate them, but he refused to listen. With a heavy heart, Aysha was taken away by her brother, leaving Hibbah alone in a house filled with hatred.
Fighting for Her Rights
As the days passed, Lami’s cruelty worsened. She denied Hibbah food, overworked her, and constantly humiliated her. Yet, Hibbah never stopped praying for a way out.
One fateful night, Sale, a local driver, attempted to take advantage of Hibbah. In her struggle to escape, she struck him with a metal object, injuring him. Terrified, she ran out of the house, seeking refuge.
A New Beginning
Hibbah found safety in her grandmother’s home. Her grandmother, a wise and kind woman, took her in with open arms. For the first time in years, Hibbah felt loved and protected.
Though her journey was painful, Hibbah realized that life was unpredictable. Some days brought sorrow, while others brought joy. With her mother gone and her father lost in deception, she knew she had to rely on her strength and faith to survive.
Would she ever reunite with her mother? Would Malam Mukhtar ever learn the truth? Only time would tell.
