A Desperate Rush and Silent Prayers
Inty’s tears were tears of relief mixed with happiness. Mujaheed held her tightly, like someone who feared she would be snatched away from him. Despite the long distance they covered, he didn’t even feel it; he was in such a hurry they almost ran onto the road as if he was about to cry.
“Please, Sameer, let’s hurry,” he said. “Her breathing is about to stop.”
Inty could barely walk because of the severe exhaustion she was feeling. When they finally reached their car, Mujaheed gently laid her in the back seat, then sat and placed her head on his lap. Inty and Sameer sat in front, and Sameer immediately started the car at full speed.
Mujaheed kept staring at her, gently stroking her head with deep compassion, as if he might burst into tears. She also looked at him slowly, blinking her reddened eyes. He bent closer and said softly, “Sorry, my dear Meenal. Nothing will happen to you, insha Allah. We’re almost at the hospital, okay?” He held her hand tightly until they arrived.
As soon as they reached the hospital, Mujaheed carried her inside without wasting a second. She was immediately taken in and given emergency treatment.
Shock, Fear, and Collapsing Strength
Mujaheed’s anxiety intensified when they entered the brightly lit area and he could see clearly how badly her condition was. Sameer sighed deeply and said, “Please calm down, Mujaheed. Insha Allah nothing has happened to Meenal. She’ll be fine.”
With a trembling voice, Mujaheed replied, “Only Allah knows what they’ve done to her. Look at how she looks now.” He fell silent, knowing that if he spoke any further, he would cry.
Inty was also crying as she saw how Meenal—whom she called Mimi—had deteriorated. She held her head tightly because of the sharp pain, her body trembling. She was dizzy, but no one noticed her condition—not even Mujaheed, who was beside her. Sameer, meanwhile, was on the phone informing their mother that Meenal had been found.
Suddenly, Mujaheed felt Inty collapse onto him, unconscious and not breathing. Panic seized him. He shook her, calling her name repeatedly, but there was no response. Raising his voice, he shouted for the nurses. They rushed over and immediately began giving Inty emergency care as well. Sameer knew deep down that Inty had suffered greatly during all the running and stress.
Medical Truths and Lingering Gratitude
After some minutes, their mother arrived at the hospital with Sakina, both overwhelmed with fear and confusion. Moments later, they were informed that Inty too had been placed on a hospital bed. Everyone was in distress, each person reacting in their own way.
What shocked them most was the nurse’s explanation. She said the patient was in a critical condition and asked what had happened. She explained that Inty had gone days without eating, and an ulcer was already causing her serious harm.
Everyone stared at the nurse in shock. Their mother said, “Nurse, that’s impossible. She ate before we left the house today. We only just found her—how could hunger cause this?”
Mujaheed asked anxiously, “Nurse, what exactly is wrong with her?” The nurse cleared her throat and explained that Inty had suffered a lot. Her injuries were severe, and the ulcer was already damaging her body. She would need at least three bags of blood and five bags of fluids because her body levels were extremely low.
Their mother held her chest in disbelief. “This can’t be true. She ate before leaving the house—how could this happen?”
Seeing they weren’t taking her seriously, the nurse finished explaining and left without even mentioning Inty again.
With sympathy, Sameer said, “Honestly, this situation is strange. Just look at how Meenal looks. You have to accept what the nurse said. She looks like someone who has suffered for weeks—she’s completely changed.”
Eventually, the nurse returned and allowed them into the room where Meenal was. The sight was heartbreaking. Seeing Mimi in that condition would melt anyone’s heart. Mujaheed could only stare at her body; she had grown noticeably thinner. Everyone was lost in their own shock.
Later, they stepped out with Sakina. They were told they could not leave and that recovery would only begin the next day. With great difficulty, Mujaheed gathered the strength to leave. His heart was filled with confusion, fear, and gratitude to Allah that Meenal’s life had been spared.
