ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
Ever since she entered the neighborhood of their house, she had been laying on the horn and speeding, just like a criminal being pursued by the police.
She stopped in front of a massive mansion of a house, pure white, with window panes everywhere reflecting the brilliant colors of the sky. It was a sprawling estate, looking as if it had been firmly planted there, with a two-story building on top and a ground floor below. The house was beautifully adorned all over with lush, vibrant green flowers. Truly, this house looked more like the home of prominent elite intellectuals who possessed unimaginable wealth and had absolutely no knowledge of poverty.
She slammed on the brakes right in front of the mansion's gate, which looked like that of a palace due to how the tall, pitch-black gate was decorated with royal designs and golden patterns.
She continued to blast the horn in that long, drawn-out manner that causes the heart of anyone listening to skip a beat.
Baba Uwale, the cleaner, who had just come out of the boys' quarters to see off her brother Mahmud who had paid her a visit, heard the horn of the house's troublemaker, Ahlam. Instantly, she nearly lost her mind with panic. She bolted toward the gate right away, screaming out for the security guard.
"Tanimu... Tanimu, come and open the gate, we are in trouble!" As for Tanimu, he was deep inside his room, fast asleep and snoring away.
She began to hit the door frantically, continuing to call his name while Ahlam only intensified the honking of the car horn.
Mahmud, who had arrived at the gate and saw how terrified his sister was, did not waste any time waiting for the security guard. He reached out, pulled back the latch of the house, and flung the gate wide open. Like a force of nature, she aggressively surged the car inside, roaring through, almost running over his toes. But since he was a brave and resilient man, he did not even flinch, let alone jump out of the way; he simply waited for her to pass and then turned back to close the gate as it was.
Only then did Tanimu emerge from his room, stretching and yawning heavily.
"What kind of stupid man are you? Didn't you hear the horn?" (What kind of foolish, useless man are you, as if you aren't being paid a salary?)
Those were the words coming out of Ahlam's mouth just as she flung the car door open in a fit of rage. Without even bothering to close the door, she quickly headed toward the gate.
Meanwhile, Mahmud was calmly putting the gate back in place and locking it in a composed manner.
Like a madwoman, she approached them, her headscarf completely undone. In a furious and aggressive tone, she demanded from Baba Uwale, where is that fool? "Where is that lunatic attendant, where is he?" As she raged, her pure Fulani hair, which had loosened and scattered across her upper back, made her look just like a tigress.
With great difficulty, her eyes tracked down Baba Tanimu, who had squeezed himself behind the car used for running household errands. Indeed, just like a cat with a mouse, she dragged him out by force and, without a second thought, slapped him across the face. You could hear the loud smack!
Baba Tanimu instantly saw darkness. "What kind of useless person are you? I was honking the horn and you refused to come open up for me! What if I am in danger, is that how you will abandon me? Is that it, I should just perish? Sigh, irresponsible nonentity! Move and get out of my sight, you worthless, empty turkey..." She cast him aside after grabbing him tightly by his shirt collar as if she were going to strangle him.
