ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

At about 7:30 in the evening, Ahmed’s car stopped right at the gate of Dr. Hassan’s hospital, a place where he usually goes for consultations.
Almost in a panic, Ahmed and his brother Hamzat Dimeji rushed out of the car, carrying Hajiya Khadijatu in their arms. They hurried into the hospital with her, but her body showed no proper movement—she wasn’t even breathing normally.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un…” was the only thing Brother Hamzat Dimeji kept repeating.
Ahmed’s eyes were swollen and bloodshot as he stared at her. His body trembled, and he couldn’t even blink. Seeing her in that condition made him feel as if he was being burned alive from within.
His eyes filled with hot tears. Deep inside, he was overwhelmed with pity for his mother. One look at her and anyone could tell she was in a severe state of shock—her entire body stiff and pale.
Immediately, nurses rushed toward them as soon as they saw that it was Dr. Ahmed himself entering with a patient.
They abandoned everything they were doing and hurried to assist.
“Quick! Be fast! It’s Dr. Ahmed Bello Jimada! It’s an emergency!” voices rang out.
A wheeled stretcher was brought instantly, and she was placed on it. Four nurses, along with Ahmed and Brother Hamzat, pushed her quickly until they got her into the examination room.
Aunty Adizat, who was outside, was completely confused and panicked, pacing back and forth helplessly.
As the nurses followed him inside and were about to attend to her, Ahmed suddenly lost his temper. He turned on them angrily, unleashing the frustration boiling inside him. He shouted harshly, startling them so much that they all stepped back in fear.
Filled with rage, he shut his eyes tightly and said,
“Leave now… just leave. Everybody get out. I can handle this. I don’t want any disturbance… just get out.”
Quickly, all of them stepped out, apologizing repeatedly—“Sorry, sir… sorry, sir”—because they didn’t even understand what he was going through. Within moments, he was left alone in the room.
He breathed heavily, clenching his fists tightly. The veins in his body were visibly tense from the overwhelming grief consuming his heart.
His hands and entire body were trembling uncontrollably. He didn’t even understand what he was feeling inside.
The shock of seeing his mother in such a condition—something he had never witnessed before—combined with the burning pain of betrayal and the thoughts of revenge against Kafayat, tormented him deeply.
He had never expected this, not even in his dreams. He knew that Kafayat’s marriage to his father was an act of revenge against him, but he never imagined she could commit such a grave act of cruelty and betrayal against his mother—especially considering that she had always regarded his mother as a figure of respect since she was young. Truly, one might even say that even the devil fears the wickedness of some women.
“Some women are truly devils incarnate,” he muttered in anger, running his hand over his head repeatedly in distress. His head throbbed painfully, and his hands and body continued to shake as he finished setting up a drip for his mother.
He checked her blood pressure—it had risen dangerously to 199. Despite his emotional turmoil, he forced himself to stay focused and give her proper medical care.
He simply could not afford to lose her.
In fact, he began to imagine that if his mother were to die today because of Kafayat, then neither she nor his father would remain alive in this world.
