Description

Hamdah Part 1 Complete Hausa Novel

Saleem couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Na’ima’s voice, calm yet laced with venom, struck him hard.
“I saw them,” she said. “On my bed, tangled, doing what shouldn’t be done.”

She dabbed at her tears and added, “I’ve tolerated enough. I know your wife isn’t loyal. How can a child be yours after just a month, when you weren’t even around?”

Furious, Saleem stood abruptly. “Enough!” he barked before storming into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him. Na’ima smiled coldly and returned to her room.

The Shock

Still drowsy from a post-Fajr nap, I awoke to a sudden pounding in my chest. I rushed to Saleem’s room, heart racing, and embraced him from behind.

“Ya Saleem,” I whispered. “Is someone dead? Please don’t scare me.”

He turned around, shoved me away, and demanded, “Who’s the father?”

Confused and trembling, I replied, “It’s you… who else?”

He shouted again, “Tell me the truth!”

“I swear it’s yours!” I cried. “I’ve never known another man!”

Then came Na’ima’s voice from behind. Calm and condescending:
“The father is the one who comes in with school uniforms. Didn’t you think the secret would surface?”

The Witnesses

Na’ima called in three men: Baba Mai Gadi, Sani, and Habu. Each gave the same account—that while Saleem was away, a man had visited me multiple times.

Baba said he let the man in, thinking he was my classmate. Sani and Habu also admitted to seeing him entering and leaving my room.

I stood frozen. The walls spun. My breath caught in my throat. I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn’t come.

Saleem turned to them, disappointed. “None of you thought to tell me?”

They were silent.

He turned to me, fury burning in his eyes. He slapped me, then pushed me out.
“Get out,” he spat. “You and that thing inside you—I want nothing to do with it.”

The Escape

Tears streamed down my face. I didn’t stop to pack. I only grabbed a small bag and ran.

I hailed a keke-napep. The driver saw my tears and didn’t even ask for fare.

At home, Ummi met me in the living room. Alarmed, she asked, “Hamdah, what happened?”

I collapsed in her arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “Ummi, I swear it’s Saleem’s baby. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

The Confrontation

Ummi and the aunties called Abba. When Saleem arrived, Abba demanded answers.

“I came back to find her pregnant,” Saleem said. “The doctor said it’s a month old. I wasn’t even in town.”

“But you said she was unwell the day you returned?” Ummi asked.

He nodded. “Yes.”

Goggo Hauwa stood. “Then it could still be yours. Many women bleed during early pregnancy.”

Saleem looked conflicted but added, “Baba Mai Gadi and the others confirmed someone else was with her.”

Salati filled the room. Ummi sobbed quietly. Abba stared blankly.

The Verdict

Saleem looked at me and repeated,
“I haramta kaina gare ki. That child isn’t mine.”

His words rang like a death bell in my ears. The pain of false accusation was unbearable.

I had loved only him. Given him all of me. And now he chose to believe others over me.

And worse, he believed Na’ima.
