ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
The huge office was as silent as if it were completely uninhabited; nothing could be heard except the gentle hum of the air conditioner, whose deep chill pervaded the expansive room.
Yet, there were about twelve people seated in a neat row. They were all high-ranking officers holding various key positions within their department of the police force. One among them, who was their leader—S.D. Ibrahim Haruna Yalwa—stood facing them with a completely stern look on his face. By all indications, he was their Chief Officer, and he was briefing them while they listened intently.
Taking a deep breath, he continued speaking in anger:
"This is an absolute disgrace to us. To think that a young girl—whom most of us here are old enough to father—has completely defied us in this city!
She has thoroughly corrupted our city and ruined our youth. She can seamlessly order narcotics, smuggle them into Nigeria, distribute them to her dealers, and return to wherever she came from—yet not a single one of us can catch her?
What does that tell us? That we are useless, or that a mere girl is beyond our reach?
I am tired of witnessing the sheer failure of our agency when it comes to this girl. Truly, this pattern of failure and shame has gone too far, and it is utterly deplorable."
One of the officers raised his hand respectfully. The Chief Officer granted him permission to speak, and he said in a measured tone, "Sir!
I suspect that this girl has powerful figures backing her from above. That is why she operates with total impunity, remains elusive, and grows ever more confident in carrying out her operations."
The State Director glared at him in anger and replied directly, "No one is backing her! She stands on her own two feet while knocking us off ours. I will not stop saying that we have brought shame upon ourselves by failing to apprehend a mere girl like her."
Silence fell over the office as everyone sank into deep thought, well aware that the State Director was telling the blunt truth. For two years, they had been chasing this young girl without achieving a single breakthrough. They had to figure out a plan, lest their agency become a laughingstock to the public.
Slowly, he closed his handsome eyes and opened them, gently lifting his head to gaze at the girl's photograph displayed on the massive projector screen in the office. She was fair-skinned, almost looking as though she had no connection to Africa. Her hair was styled in blue attachment braids that cascaded all the way down to her waist. She wore a form-fitting top and trousers, topped with a white hat matching her outfit, with a bag slung comfortably across her midsection. Dark sunglasses covered her eyes, yet they could not hide the faint, subtle smile resting on her beautiful face.
Slowly raising his hand, his eyes remained glued to her picture. Even now, he could not comprehend how such a minor nuisance had driven their entire agency to near insanity, remaining so far out of reach that they couldn't even get close to catching her.
The State Director looked toward him and barked, "C.S.O. HAISAM ABDULMALIK MADAKA!
Do you have any explanation?"
