ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

A Girl Crying by the Road
Her head rested on the bag that carried her belongings from Ghana. She cried as if her soul would leave her body. Even though she was sitting by the roadside, she felt neither fear nor anxiety about being there.
“I wish I had died instead of living this kind of life. Why didn’t I follow my parents in death? Why am I still alive?”
She quickly sought forgiveness from Allah when she realized that such thoughts were sinful. Allah had willed for her to live—but why was her life always full of trials?
She kept asking herself questions that had no answers while sitting by the roadside. Night had already begun to fall, yet she felt no fear at all, because she didn’t even know which town she was in. She only knew it was a city from the way the environment looked.
A Man Notices Her
Meanwhile, a young man was driving fast, almost as if the car would lift into the air. He knew his mother must be worried about him because it was already late and he rarely stayed out that long. Besides, he had left her alone at home.
Soft foreign music was playing inside his car, and he hummed along with it quietly. Despite that, he did not reduce his speed because the night had grown deep.
The girl was still squatting exactly where she had been earlier. She had been there for almost an hour. She even began thinking about standing up and dragging herself somewhere—anywhere—just to find something to eat. If she remembered correctly, the last time she ate was the previous day, and even that meal had not been anything meaningful.
From a distance, the man noticed what looked like a person. As he got closer, he confirmed his suspicion—and what surprised him most was that it was a woman, and she looked like someone in serious trouble.
He passed her at first, but then reversed the car and stopped beside her.
He stepped out and stood there observing her carefully. She was clearly distressed. But what was a woman of such dignity doing sitting by the roadside?
He looked left and right, noticing that the road was gradually becoming quiet, with only a few cars passing from time to time.
Slowly, he walked toward her and bent down to her level.
“Miss… Miss!”
Gently, she raised her beautiful face. The hunger she felt had drained her strength, so she showed no sign of shock or fear.
He interrupted her thoughts by asking, “What are you doing here like this? It’s already late. You shouldn’t be sitting by the roadside.”
She had been staring at him since he began speaking, but she did not understand what he was saying. She felt as if she was no longer in the real world.
“Please stand up. I’ll take you home if you don’t have a ride.”
“Just leave me alone. It would be better if death met me here,” she said, lowering her head again as she continued crying.
His heart softened immediately. He was naturally a compassionate man, especially when it came to women, whom he saw as vulnerable.
Seeing that she was not mentally stable at the moment and that the night was getting darker, he said, “Alright then, please come with me to our house. By morning, I will take you back to your home.”
A New Destination
To his surprise, before he even finished speaking, she stood up and looked at him as if ready to go.
He was shocked that she felt no fear of him—even though he was a young man and a stranger. She showed no hesitation at all.
He opened the passenger door for her, then walked around and entered the driver’s seat. He started the car and drove away.
From time to time he glanced at her, but she never looked at him. In fact, her eyes were closed as she felt her stomach rumbling with hunger.
“Some parents will surely answer for neglecting the trust Allah gave them,” he thought. “Here is such a beautiful young girl, yet she ended up sitting by the roadside without even showing fear. I’m sure Mommy won’t scold me—she will probably be happy about this.”
He looked at her again before returning his attention to driving.
As for the girl, she didn’t react at all. Instead, she felt a little relief. At least she knew she would soon eat something and fill her stomach. Even that alone made her grateful to Allah.
Soon they arrived at a large gate illuminated by bright lights. The man honked, and the security guard quickly opened it.
He drove inside and parked the car in the parking area.
