ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
As soon as Abba left, Abeed closed his eyes and exhaled heavily. Closing his eyes as tears continued to stream down, he said, "Uhm, our Abba, may Allah deliver us from this trial. As for me, I know my own time has already run out." After that, he forced a brave smile and raised his eyes, staring up at the ceiling.
Meanwhile, after Abba walked out, he went back to the doctor and said, "Doctor, take me to the room where Fu'ad is." Without any hesitation, the doctor led the way, and Abba followed him all the way to Fu'ad's room. He pushed the door open and went inside, while the doctor returned to his office. Abba walked straight in and found Fu'ad sitting down with his head resting on his knees, his eyes bloodshot and completely red. Spiritless, Abba approached the edge of the bed and sat down. He remained quiet for a while without saying anything, and similarly, Fu'ad did not look up or speak to him for several seconds. Eventually, Abba took his hand and placed it over Fu'ad's hand, prompting him to look up.
Seeing the state Fu'ad was in terrified Abba; his heart began to thump, and his mouth failed to utter a word. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, Fu'ad raised his hand to stop him, saying, "Our Abba, do not say anything to me. I do not want to speak to you again until you tell me the story of what happened in the past. The way I see you all hiding things from me confirms to me that something happened which you don't want me to know. Abba, I beg you, for Allah's sake, bring me that book. Do not let my heart fail. I know nothing about this. If I die of distress over this, I will never forgive you all, no matter what it is you are hiding from me."
Quickly looking up in shock, Abba said, "Astaghfirullah, Fu'ad! What is making you so desperate? For Allah's sake, do not speak like that. Furthermore, I beg you to forget about knowing this story; your not knowing the story is what is best for you."
"By Allah, Abba, those words you just spoke have only increased my desire to read this book. It is either I am given the book, or I take my own life!"
They suddenly heard the door being pushed open as someone said, "You don't have to take your life, Fu'ad. Rest your mind; if it is because of this book, you shall read it." Abeed said this as he walked up to them. He then turned to look at their father and said, "Our Abba, you were the one who started playing this game. You were the one who first exposed this secret. If you hadn't given him this book, your minds would still be at ease right now. Why won't you leave this enmity to just me? Must you torment me? Well, what is done is done, and Fu'ad must know everything; you cannot fight destiny. Fu'ad, are you ready to read this book now?" Abeed asked, weeping.
Nodding his head, Fu'ad looked at him. "Alright, then. That confirms to me that you want to proceed with reading it. Stand up, let's go home so I can give you the book."
Fu'ad smiled and said, "Seriously, Brother, will you give it to me?"
"I am serious, Fu'ad, stand up let's go," he said, turning around. Fu'ad also stood up with difficulty and followed behind him. Abba also rose, his body completely drained, and followed behind them until they reached where Momy was sitting, weeping silently. She was gripped by surprise upon seeing Fu'ad and Abeed coming out like that. Looking at Abba, she said, "Our Abba, why do I see them coming out like this?"
"Uhm, let's go home, Ammi. I will explain everything further over there." From there, they walked out to the parking space, and without even saying goodbye to the doctor, they left for home.
After they returned home, Abeed went into his room to get the book. As he was turning around, he saw their father looking completely miserable and on the verge of tears, his eyes entirely bloodshot and red. Poor man, because of the sheer distress he was in, his face had even grown gaunt.
Softening his voice, Abba said, "My son, please don't do this, for Allah's sake. People who share your name are known to be obedient, and I know you too usually listen to me very well. I don't know why your heart has become so hardened now that you are defying my words. Abeeddeen, please help me, I am begging you as your father not to do this. By Allah, the coming distress will be far more painful and bitter than what we are facing now. Fu'ad does not know about your brother Yasid; he doesn't know what drove him out of this house. Likewise, he doesn't know why you and Abdulmajeed have been away from home for so long. Now Abdulmajeed has left again, and Zarah has left too. Do you want me to lose you all as well?"
"Uhm, our Abba, you have already experienced losing Brother Yasid, let alone Fu'ad. Don't worry, I will be the one to feel the worst when I make him read it. Besides, you have almost caused my own heart to fail as well, Abba." As soon as he finished speaking, he brushed past Abba and walked out without waiting to hear what their father had to say.
