Dedicated to my trusted ones, KUMIN UZIRI GROUP FANC...
“Ajmal, what exactly is this that you are doing? Do you want everyone to understand what is going on? After all this useless gossip, in the end it is you they will seize, not anyone else, and yet you are standing there being stubborn...” Sameer had not even finished what he wanted to say before Ajmal stopped him, saying,
“What nonsense should I endure? Malam, do not finish that statement of yours when you know nothing. Or do you want us to keep repeating the same thing over and over?”
“Hmmm, I am already beginning to get tired of your attitude. I feel like I should just leave you to the one who is eager and ready for the task — Mommah,” Sameer said, preparing to leave the place where Ajmal was.
Quickly, Ajmal grabbed Sameer’s hand and gave him a frightened look, the kind of fear that had been visible in his eyes ever since Mommah’s name was mentioned, and he found himself sinking into it.
“Let me go, Malam. You do not take advice anyway. It is known that this is natural disposition, as you said, not bad behavior, the way Mommah sees it. So this thing that has happened is not something Allah means for evil for you, especially if you embrace it wholeheartedly and with good intention. Do you know what Allah may turn it into in the future?” Sameer said, staring at him again with eyes full of concern, the same concern and pity he always felt for his friend.
Ajmal was the one who broke the silence between them and said, “Alright, I have heard you. But stop acting as though you will keep reporting to Mommah whatever happens between me and that girl... or between me and her...” Then he fell silent and held his forehead, as though only he knew what he felt whenever he came face to face with her, or even remembered her in his life.
“Alright then, get up. Let us go and meet the others so everything will go well and this gathering will end peacefully, if only for the sake of the happiness we saw shining on Mommah’s face,” Sameer said, pulling Ajmal along as they left.
Everyone was surprised at how open and cheerful Mommah looked today, even showing her only son among her daughters a kind of care he had not been fortunate enough to receive before. This had been the case ever since she became aware of a certain nature within him, something she interpreted as bad behavior, and sometimes even called him worse than that.
The place was very full, crowded to the brim with people because of the wedding ceremony being held for Mommah’s only son and Alhaji Hafeez Manufashi’s only daughter. It was a marriage brought about by a tangled web of schemes and manipulations, one that had been arranged and pushed forward until it was being solemnized today, without the consent of either of the two involved.
