ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
His bright eyes, which showed that he had not been sleeping, looked at her. She widened her eyes a little, while her smile still remained on her face.
"You are not sleeping?"
He closed his eyes again and answered her.
"I could not sleep."
"I thought you were sleeping. That is why I did not wake you up. Today is Sauban's wedding, or have you forgotten?"
He raised his head and looked at her.
"No. I came back yesterday because of it, remember? But today, I feel like I will not go."
Anty placed her hand in his thick hair and stroked it gently.
"Today is an important day in Sauban's life. It is a day he may never repeat again. As his friend, you should be there with him."
After saying this, Anty stood up and went to his closet. She opened it, brought out an expensive outfit, and placed it on the bed for him.
"Let me go to His Royal Highness's side and get you a nice cap, since you have abandoned your tradition of wearing Hausa clothes. But make sure you are ready before I return. Narjis will bring your breakfast now."
He lowered his feet to the floor and shook his head.
"No, Anty. I cannot eat anything now."
"You did not eat anything yesterday when you returned, and now you are saying you will not eat breakfast? Abiey, were you not the one who told me that everything would pass?"
He lowered his head, smiling in a way that showed deep sadness and worry.
"Everything will pass, Anty. Everything will become a story. But that does not mean Zahra's love has left my heart. Zahra's love has married me, and I have married it, Anty. I am only living because her love is still alive with me. The day her love leaves my blood, that will be the day I distance myself from life. I believe everything will pass, but not the love of Zahra."
He stood up and went to the windows. He opened the curtains covering the glass door in the room, allowing the sunlight to brighten his entire room.
Anty quietly turned and left. He filled his mouth with air and began blowing it out slowly. Then he turned and entered his bathroom. He bathed like someone who had been forced to do so, came out, and went to the dressing mirror. He stood there looking at himself and smiling.
"Zahra, do you remember? On a day like this, I was the groom. I was dressed in white, and you were in the other room being made up. You called me on the phone and asked, 'What color of clothes are you wearing, Abiey?' I told you I was wearing white clothes, and they were even spraying perfume on me. You laughed that sweet laugh of yours and said, 'I cannot wait to see you, my groom.'"
"Abiey, my son..."
He quickly turned and looked at Anty, who was holding the new cap from His Royal Highness.
"Zahra died a long time ago. Put that in your mind. Open your heart and let the truth enter. Accept it."
Hot tears rolled down his face.
"Zahra is alive, Anty. She is still here with me."
He placed his hand on his chest, pointing to the sound of his heartbeat. Anty slowly bent down and placed the cap down for him. She looked again at his handsome face, where tears were flowing. Then she turned and left without saying another word.
As she pushed the door and headed downstairs, tears began gathering in her eyes.
"Allah, make things easier for this boy. Send him help."
With sadness in her heart, she came downstairs and went to the dining area. Narjis, who was preparing breakfast for her brother, looked at her sister Aisha and then at her mother.
"Anty..."
Anty Amarya looked at her with worry. Aisha quickly dropped the phone in her hand and came toward Anty with concern.
"What happened, Anty?"
"Is it Abiey?"
Narjis asked. Anty nodded, tears rolling down her face.
"I have never seen anyone my heart pities as much as Abiey. Whenever anything happens to him, no matter how small it is, it tears me apart."
She pulled out a chair and sat down, then looked at Aisha.
