ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

Like someone walking on air, she emerged from their bedroom. In the blink of an eye, she reached another room located just beside the one she had come out of. Upon reaching it, she turned the doorknob, and the room opened instantly. There was no light, as it was the middle of the night, and since she knew she had turned off the light with her own hands, this did not surprise her. Entering without switching on the room's light, she walked over to the bed where the boy was supposed to be lying covered in a duvet. She approached until her feet stumbled right before the bed. But when she pulled back the duvet, she found no one on the bed except for pillows that had been arranged to look as though the boy were lying there. She quickly stepped backward like someone who had seen something terrifying, but the reality was simply that the boy was not on the bed where she had coaxed him to sleep not long ago. She quickly opened another door inside the room, thinking perhaps he had gone to the restroom, but it was completely empty—there was no one. The situation began to terrify her, and her worst fears were starting to come true. She came out of the room in a state of sheer panic, but no matter where she looked, there was not a single trace of the boy, let alone his father. She collapsed in the middle of the living room as a burst of crying escaped her, and she began to weep uncontrollably, sobbing and gasping as if her heart were about to burst out of her chest, a profound fear creeping into her... Could it be that they had taken her baby away from her? Then she remembered that crying was not the solution and that she needed to file a report ASAP, because wherever Imam was, he certainly couldn't have gone far. She stood up and went to where the house landline phone was and dialed the police number. Within minutes, someone began speaking to her in Arabic, and she also filed the complaint about her missing boy in Arabic. They asked for her address, which she gave them, and they assured her that they would arrive shortly!
Even after she hung up the phone, she burst into tears again. Was this what Imam had planned, which was why he appeared out of nowhere? Had he really just come to take away his child whom he had forgotten for years and years? She burst into tears even more when she raised her eyes and let them rest on his large portrait hanging on the living room wall. He was a beautiful boy, chubby in the way children who receive excellent care are, with one of his hands raised as he laughed. There wasn't a single tooth in his mouth, but despite that, looking at the picture would make you burst into laughter or at least smile! This was where the police found her, still kneeling on the floor. After they sat down and did a brief search around the house, confirming that the boy was indeed nowhere to be found, they returned to take her statement!
First of all, she was a native of Qatar; her name was Zainab. Her parents were Muslims and Arabs, just as we know native Qataris to be! She herself was a stunning beauty, a fair-skinned Arab woman. Her mother had passed away when she was just a child, and she was an only child. Her father had also passed away, right after she finished her O-Levels. He had been an employee at a large company in the country. On the day of his passing, Zainab had told him that she wanted to have dinner with him, which made him work hard to finish up his office tasks to keep his promise to her. However, the work overwhelmed him. He couldn't even leave for Maghrib prayer and prayed right there in the office. As for her, since he had told her to choose a top restaurant for them, she had already arrived at the venue and placed their order before her father could arrive. On his part, he completed everything, stood up, and picked up some documents to go meet his only daughter. But just as he reached the door to open it and leave, he simply collapsed and fell. From that single fall, he never moved again; life had run its course!
