ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

Lulu Regains Consciousness
Abba lifted her into his arms and began walking toward Ammi’s room. He did not put her down until he reached the bed, where he gently laid her. Turning to the small fridge beside Ammi’s bed, he opened it and took out some slightly cold water, then moved closer to Lulu. He poured a little into his palm and carefully wiped her face with it. She did not move, as though nothing had touched her at all. Ammi’s chest tightened again, and she climbed onto the bed, lifted Lulu’s head, and placed it on her lap just as Abba wiped her face with the water for the second time. With a heavy breath, Lulu finally stirred and slowly opened her moist eyes.
Her gaze fell on Abba first. He closed his eyes, exhaling deeply, and murmured, “Alhamdulillah…” Then he simply stood up and left the room, because his heart was already breaking over his children, and he did not want to remain there long enough for it to push him into regrettable thoughts.
Ammi pulled Lulu tightly into her arms in overwhelming joy. Didi, unable to contain herself, joined them and embraced them both. Ammi gathered her children together and held them close. It was then Lulu remembered what had happened earlier; her heart began to pound violently. She quickly raised her head, her voice trembling more than before, tears pooled in her beautiful eyes. Her hands shaking, she said as she pulled away from Ammi,
“Ammi, was it a dream? Ammi, I had a terrible dream, didn’t I? Ammi, please tell me it was just a dream and not real. Please, Ammi…” She ended the words shaking her head and bursting into fresh tears. Ammi drew her back into her arms again, feeling new tears welling up in her own eyes.
“Be patient, Afaaf… stop this crying, it will only give you a headache.”
“Ammi, you didn’t say yes. Ammi, you didn’t tell me it’s not true. What kind of dream is this? What kind of terrible dream is this? How could such a thing even be possible? Ammi, let me go to Abba so he can tell me he’s just joking with us. Ammi, I swear I will never misbehave at school again. I swear I’ve stopped, I won’t do it again. I know this is what Abba wants to hear from me, and I’ve said it now. Please, Ammi, tell him I’ve stopped. I swear I’ve repented and turned to Allah…” She continued crying uncontrollably.
Didi felt as though she herself had not been told she was married off to anyone; she felt no worry of her own except for her sister. The state she saw her in at that moment crushed everything else. Lulu’s crying unsettled her deeply, and the way she spoke was like someone no longer fully aware of herself.
“That’s enough… be quiet, didn’t I say so?” Ammi said, wiping her eyes. Though she did not intend to, Lulu gave in and remained in Ammi’s embrace. Her loud crying gradually faded into sobs until exhaustion finally overtook her and she fell into a troubled sleep. Only then did Ammi release a deep breath and lift her head to look at Didi sitting beside her. Her eyes were swollen with tears, barely recognizable as Didi’s. Ammi reached out her hand, and without hesitation Didi moved closer; Ammi pulled her into an embrace. At that moment, Didi finally broke down in heartbreaking tears.
“Will you also break my heart, Afrah?” Ammi asked softly. Didi shook her head but could not stop the tears. With great difficulty she opened her mouth and said,
“Ammi, Abba…!” She fell silent, then added, “Ammi, I don’t know who Abba married me to. He didn’t tell me, Ammi.”
Ammi gently closed her eyes, then slowly placed her hand on Didi and said, “I hope for patience from you, Didi. Please, whoever your father has married you to, bear it with patience. He would never choose something meant to harm you. If you worry, then Afaaf will also find an opening to worry. That way, Abba will regret his decision from both sides, even though it is not a sin. But if you endure, you will guide your sister, as you always have. So stop this crying; you know your head will start hurting soon.” Ammi finished gently, soothing her.
Didi said nothing, only feeling her heart continue to race as she sat silently, thinking about how their future life would begin—marriage at such a young age, and to a husband they did not know, who did not love them and whom they did not love.
“Allah will provide a solution for us,” Ammi said, as though she knew exactly what Didi was thinking.
At the Hospital
“Where is my son, Yallabai? What happened to him? How did he end up in this hospital?” Mom asked all the questions at once. Daddy let out a deep breath before replying,
“All these questions at the same time?” he said, looking at her.
“Please, I want to see my son. Where is he?”
“Let’s go,” Daddy said, leading the way. Without delay, Mom followed him, her mind in turmoil, her only wish being to see her darling and understand what was troubling him.
“My boy…” she said, placing her hand on Bad’s face as he lay there looking almost lifeless. Seeing that he did not move, she looked at Daddy and asked, “Is he sleeping? What happened to him?”
“Calm yourself. He will wake up later, In Sha Allah.”
“You still haven’t told me what happened to him, Yallabai…” Before Daddy could say anything, a doctor entered the room. After greeting Daddy respectfully, he approached Bad, examined him carefully, then turned back to Daddy and asked with the same respect,
“He still hasn’t moved?”
“Yes,” Daddy replied.
“Okay, let’s continue praying. Just as we said, he will wake up later, In Sha Allah.”
“Ameen,” Daddy said.
“Doctor, what is wrong with my son?” Mom asked, looking at the doctor. Daddy glanced at her, then turned to the doctor and said,
“You may go.”
“Okay, sir,” the doctor replied and left the room.
“The best thing for you to do is sit and pray for him to wake up, not to ask questions,” Daddy said, looking at Mom.
“Has it really reached this point?” Mom asked softly.
“Don’t upset yourself.” She sighed deeply, realizing nothing would be explained to her. She simply found a place to sit, gazing at her son with deep pity.
News of a Marriage
“Welcome,” Ummeey said as she looked at Abeey.
“Thank you,” he replied, searching for a place to sit. Abeey smiled before saying, “I know you’re eager to hear what I have to say.”
She sighed lightly and said, “Indeed, Malam. You left here unwell, and now this story sounds more like a tale…”
“Calm yourself. I feel perfectly fine, especially since today one of my goals has been achieved—I have married off Affan.” Filled with surprise, Ummeey said,
“Malam, is it really true?”
Abeey nodded and replied, “Of course. This is not something to joke about. Truly, today I married him off. Your own wish has also been fulfilled, or wasn’t that what you wanted?” he asked, looking at her.
“Subhanallah,” Ummeey said in amazement, then added, “Alhamdulillah. May Allah place goodness in it, grant them peace, and unite their hearts. As for me, I am here waiting for my co-wife to arrive,” she finished with a smile.
Abeey smiled back and said, “Ameen, Ameen.”
