ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
"Hey! Hey!! You! Aren't you coming out so you can leave, or do you want to be late?"
From the other side, a voice responded, "Yes, Inna, we're coming out now."
A young teenage girl, about fifteen years old, emerged with a young boy of about ten following behind her. She was wearing a liver-colored shirt and trousers, holding a Holy Qur'an along with some other books and a hijab that was also liver-colored. By all indications, they were heading to Islamic school (Islamiyya).
However, one look at the uniform and you could tell it had seen better days (that is, it was old), given how its original dark maroon color had begun fading into a light maroon due to sheer age. But because it belonged to someone who valued cleanliness, it was always washed and ironed. Even right now, the uniform was spotlessly clean, neatly pressed, and practically gleaming.
She stood at the doorway muttering to herself, saying, "Why can't people just call someone by their actual name instead of going 'Hey! Hey!!' like they're calling a rickshaw?" She let out a soft huff. She was about to put on her hijab, but paused because of the laughter from the young boy. He was clearly her younger brother, as they shared a striking resemblance, and he was also dressed in the same uniform—shirt, trousers, and a cap.
She glared at him and said, "Sajeed, I swear I'll slap you! Am I playing with you?"
He replied, "Sorry, Aunty SAJEEDAH, I'll stop."
She let out a small hiss, mtsww, as she tried to put her hijab back on.
Seeing this, I quickly took the opportunity to take a closer look at her. She wasn't fair-skinned, nor was she dark; rather, she had that rare, exquisite skin tone you'd hardly find on one in a hundred people—a rich chocolate complexion.
She wasn't strikingly gorgeous, but she couldn't be called ugly either. She had a perfectly sized nose—neither too long nor too short—a small mouth, and clear, bright white eyes similar to those of Chinese origin, though not deeply set. She was a bit tall, with a thick, abundant head of hair that was unsoftened by shampoo. Her arms and body were covered in fine, smooth hair that lay softly against her skin. Truthfully, she was a beauty in her own right.
