ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

The Midnight Chaos Begins

It was a dead silent night. Only the sounds of chirping birds and barking dogs echoed in the distance. Inside the small room, Gwaggo Ramma lay fast asleep on her iron bed, snoring so loudly it resembled a strangled rooster.

Mai Gari, sleeping on a straw mat nearby, was also deep in slumber. His mouth hung open, snoring loudly and releasing occasional farts—leftovers from the heavy meal they both had earlier.

Suddenly, a terrible stench hit his nose. He woke up coughing, pulled off the cloth covering him, and sat up in the dark, blocking his nose with both hands. Gwaggo Ramma let out another pair of thunderous farts, which echoed in the tight room like firecrackers in a cave.

"Ya Allah! Ramma, what are you doing? This smell is like a corpse locked in a box!" he exclaimed, clearly upset.

He tapped her foot hard to wake her. She sat up, disoriented, and accidentally added another loud fart to the mix.

"Subhanallah! Am I in the toilet?" she asked, alarmed by the awful smell.

"No, you're in the bedroom, stinking it up like a burst truck tire!" he snapped back.

She lit the flashlight to see him pressing his stomach and realized he too was guilty. They exchanged annoyed glances in the dim light. Embarrassed, Mai Gari clenched his backside tightly, struggling to stop another one from escaping. But his effort was in vain—another loud fart blasted out.

That was the final straw.

The Race to the Toilet

Gwaggo jumped up, panicking. She had a sudden urge—diarrhea was on the way, and she knew it showed no mercy. She prayed she’d reach the toilet in time.

Mai Gari, realizing he too couldn’t hold it any longer, snatched the flashlight and made for the door. There was only one toilet in the entire compound, and he knew if Gwaggo reached it first, it was over for him.

But Gwaggo had already guessed his plan. She lunged forward and grabbed the edge of his wrapper to stop him from escaping.

"If anyone’s using that toilet, it’s me! I’m on the edge already!" she warned.

Mai Gari, unable to speak for fear of losing control, raised his hands in surrender and tried to explain with gestures.

She ignored him, shoved him aside, and bolted out—one foot in a slipper, the other barefoot, her other slipper in hand. She sprinted like her life depended on it.

The Unexpected Rival

Just then, Salele, who had also woken with a churning stomach, rushed out of his own room. He had already switched on his keypad phone flashlight and slipped on his sandals. As he dashed toward the toilet, he nearly collided with Gwaggo.

“What is this chaos?” he thought, seeing her running too. Then he spotted his grandfather, Mai Gari, clutching his backside, running barefoot.

“There’s no way I’m giving up this toilet!” Salele vowed silently, increasing his pace.

He reached it first, dived inside, and slammed the door just as Gwaggo reached it.

“You son of your parents! Don’t you dare! I haven’t even put on my other slipper!” she shouted, banging the door in frustration.

Desperate Alternatives

Defeated and desperate, Gwaggo stepped back, searching for a place to relieve herself. Her eyes landed on an old aluminum bowl. Still crouching, she waddled over and picked it up.

Mai Gari, witnessing this, looked around and spotted an old broken dish under the moonlight. He dashed to it like a man on a mission.

Both of them, in separate corners, squatted with their makeshift toilets, ready to relieve the monsters in their bellies.

But before either of them could begin, a loud BANG! hit the main door of the house.

They both froze.

The unexpected knock scared them so badly that Mai Gari dropped his bowl, got up with difficulty, and ran off, afraid of being seen in such a disgraceful position. Gwaggo too, held her cloth tightly, flashlight in her mouth, heart racing, her bowels forgotten—for the moment.

Salele, inside the toilet, hadn’t even finished. Hearing the knock, he panicked, grabbed the water container, rinsed off, and burst out of the toilet.

Collision and Conclusion

As he sprinted out, Mai Gari emerged from the alley. They bumped heads so hard they both nearly fell. Gwaggo, still trying to tie her cloth which refused to cooperate, was stumbling behind.

Their eyes met in the moonlight—three grown people, all caught in the humiliating war between their bellies and a shared toilet.

"Is this the kind of life I came to this compound for?" Mai Gari muttered, furious at the entire situation. "I ran from jinn and ended up in shame."

Just then, Gwaggo spotted a dusty corner behind an old shack, ran there with her bowl, and finally released her bowels in peace. Mai Gari, seeing her success, followed suit with his own dish.

Their shameful, smelly mission finally complete.

But who was knocking?

That’s a story for another night.
