Sudden Danger on the Road
He pressed his head down, completely unaware that the car had skidded until he felt it moving on the road. Then he regained his composure, trying to grab the car keys. Amina, crying in a trembling voice, saw a large car suddenly heading towards them, and her face went pale. Her cries stopped abruptly as she instinctively leapt into the arms of Danmallam, trembling all over. She cried again, saying, “Oh God, such a huge car…!”
A wave of anger and frustration almost overwhelmed him. He couldn’t speak to her immediately, so he steadied the car, parked on the roadside, and turned to look at Amina, who was holding him tightly out of fear. Seeing all her tears wiped away on his shoulder, a look of disgust and anger followed her, but she didn’t notice, lost in her panic and the shock of the near accident.
Tension and Rebuke
Seeing her still trembling and avoiding his gaze, he let out a thin hiss before scolding her sharply: “You…!” Only then did she regain her senses and looked at him. Seeing his furious expression, she quickly released the garment she was clutching and returned to her seat, holding herself tightly as she tried to catch her breath, tears still streaming down her face.
His anger grew as he turned on the car’s lights and noticed the dirt on her hands and clothes. He glared at her and said, “What kind of reckless girl are you? Haven’t you ever done anything in your life to prove you’re a woman?” He looked at her eyes, now changing color with his anger. She didn’t lift her head but kept wiping her tears.
He warned her, frustrated, “If I hear your whining again, you’ll regret it… Do you even understand how much pain my hand can cause? You’re useless…!” In his mind, he was struggling with his emotions; her crying alone was enough to make his blood boil.
Chaos and Submission
He tried to focus on driving but quickly heard her cries again, turning in surprise. Seeing her hastily cover her mouth and hijab, tears flowing like a fountain, he didn’t respond and drove on. Her continuous sobbing and strange behavior confused him; his hand held the steering wheel while he watched her intently.
Her repeated pleas and insistence to go to Hanne and Hamida’s house only fueled his frustration. He glared at her, saying, “So you refuse to go home? You’ll keep causing trouble and disrespect? I’ll fix you myself if you don’t keep quiet. Forty lashes, understand?”
Amina, terrified, begged, “Please, have mercy… for your parents’ sake, have mercy…!” The shouting and sobbing had nearly driven him to the edge of rage. He finally parked the car in anger, opened his door, and stepped out. Amina thought he would stop her, but instead, she pressed herself against the car door, covering her mouth and crying, only to see him slam the door shut as if to crush it.
