Determined to Attend the Party
"As for me, whether you agree or not, I swear I will attend this wedding. She is my friend, in fact my best friend. How can you tell me not to go when all our other friends will be there? Just be patient, dear, I will return soon."
As soon as she finished speaking, she hung her small handbag on her shoulder and left.
He only shook his head, regretting in his heart marrying a woman who had little religious knowledge despite her Western education. Now here he was drowning in sorrow.
"Hello Safa, I am already outside. Where are you?"
"We can also see you. Just come over, our car is by the roadside."
She ended the call and headed there. She saw the car and entered, greeting them.
They answered and burst into laughter.
"Wow, Neediy, you look really beautiful! Honestly, I didn't think Ammar would allow you to come to this party," Safa said.
"Look at trouble! I swear he did not stop me from going. You know I’ve always looked forward to this party. I even dreamed of it."
They laughed loudly.
"Especially this party that will break a record at the riverside."
"Riverside? I hope it’s not too far?"
"You know your problem—you get tired too quickly. If not for this pregnancy, people would assume you're still a young, unmarried girl."
She rubbed her stomach and smiled.
"Wallahi, I love what I carry. You know despite everything, I truly love my husband. He is so happy about this pregnancy."
"Hmmm, may Allah grant you safe delivery. Let’s enjoy this party."
"Ameen, but not too much. You all know my husband is a religious teacher. If he didn’t love me, I would never behave like this."
"Truly, Ammar loves you."
Arrival at the Wedding Party
They stopped at the bride’s family house. By the time they arrived, everyone was already dressed. The groom had sent cars and many were already inside them. Even the bride came out in her beautifully tailored lace dress.
They greeted her before she entered another car where the groom also sat. Anisa entered with Rahila, while the rest went with their partners.
Rahila was one of their close friends. They all studied together, mainly in the Islamic school. She rarely agreed to join events like this, but she and Anisa were very close because Anisa loved taking advice—although she sometimes ignored it.
"I didn’t expect you would come, Rahila."
"Honestly, the bride went to my house begging my parents to allow me. That is why I’m here, but Anisa, my heart is beating so fast. I regret this already."
They laughed.
"It’s because you’re not used to it, sweetheart. Let me text my husband and apologize."
She took out her phone, sent him a message asking for forgiveness, then switched it off.
They drove for a long time, then finally arrived. Everyone came out screaming with excitement. The sound crew started arranging instruments, and the music began.
Anisa stepped out of the car, her heart pounding. A strange fear washed over her. Rahila held her hand.
"You also feel what I am feeling, right? Now you believe me that it is not just because I’m new to this?"
"Yes, Rahila. I don’t know why, but my heart is unsettled. I keep trying to call Ammar but there is no network."
"Allah will protect us, Insha Allah. Let’s stay here near the car and keep reciting prayers."
They agreed and remained outside. The party was getting louder. The wind gained strength, darkness took over and the atmosphere turned violent. The wind began to sweep away everything; even the people were carried and thrown into the river. Some were split in two, blood splashing everywhere. Screams of horror filled the air.
Anisa and Rahila hid behind the car, clinging to each other and reciting every prayer that came to their lips.
The moon eventually brightened the scene. Bodies were scattered everywhere, torn beyond recognition. Anisa saw the bride pierced by a long piece of wood, her organs exposed. Anisa screamed.
Suddenly, the river began to churn as if something enormous was rising from its depth. They ran into the forest, the spirits of the dead chasing after them like skeletons. Breathless and terrified, they hid between large rocks. The skeletal creatures passed without seeing them. Silence overcame them until sleep stole them away.
Blood, Regret, and the Struggle to Survive
The call to dawn prayer woke him. He jumped up terrified, remembering his nightmare. His heart trembled. He prayed and made long supplications for the safety of his wife and unborn child. He tried calling her again and again, but still no connection.
Cold wind woke the surviving girls. They found water and performed dry ablution, praying for Allah’s rescue.
A loud hiss came from behind them. They turned and saw a huge snake with massive eyes and a wide mouth coming toward them. They ran, but it leapt in front of them, grabbing Safa’s fiancé. It swallowed him alive, bones cracking in its jaws. They screamed and ran again.
"I regret coming to this party! I regret choosing friendship over obeying my parents! Because of a PARTY, we are dying!" Safa cried.
Everyone cried, remembering how they were warned not to attend.
Anisa held her stomach, sobbing.
"I disobeyed my husband, and now I have brought myself to destruction. Even our bodies may not be found because of this PARTY."
They heard footsteps and turned. An old woman walked towards them slowly, leaning on her stick...
