ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
A Sudden Message
On the very day her wedding was about to be finalized, Ummi received a text message from a phone number she had spent two years looking for—the number of the man she had loved more than anything else in the world... Fahad.
"Call off this wedding if you truly love me. I am outside."
Her hands began to shake violently.
She stared into the mirror, her eyes pooling with tears while her bridal makeup was being done inside the room.
"Ummi, are you alright?" her friend Ammi asked.
She wiped her tears away quickly.
"It's nothing."
But inside, her heart was in total turmoil, gripped by an overwhelming sense of fear.
Two years ago, Fahad had vanished without a single word of explanation. He cut off her calls and blocked her everywhere. He left her in so much pain that she nearly lost her mind entirely. And today... on the day of her wedding to someone else... he suddenly reappears?
Outside the room, people were laughing and celebrating joyfully. But her heart was somewhere else entirely. Quietly picking up her hijab, she slipped out through the back of the house. She could barely manage to walk to the gate because of how violently her heart was pounding.
And right there by the gate... stood Fahad.
He had lost a tremendous amount of weight. His eyes looked hollow and changed, like someone who had endured immense suffering.
"Ummi..." he called her name in a weak, fragile voice.
Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Why now, Fahad? Why today?"
He stepped closer to her.
"Because I never stopped loving you."
"Then where on earth did you go for two years?!" she burst into tears.
He went quiet for a few seconds before pulling an envelope out of his pocket.
"Read this."
With trembling hands, she opened it. It was a hospital result.
"Cancer," she whispered under her breath.
Her breath hitched completely.
"The day I was diagnosed... the doctors told me I didn’t have much time left," Fahad explained. "I wanted you to hate me instead of making yourself suffer over me, and that is why I walked away."
Ummi shook her head, crying bitterly.
"So you left me in agonizing pain and heartbreak just because you decided to make that choice all by yourself?"
"I was terrified..."
The Ultimate Choice
Before he could finish his sentence, people inside the house began calling her name. It was time for the wedding ceremony to be finalized.
She looked at Fahad. Then she looked back at the door of the house. Her entire life was caught right in the middle between two men... the one she deeply loved, and the one who had never done anything to hurt her.
Fahad offered a painful smile.
"Go back inside, Ummi... I just wanted to see you for the last time."
He turned his back to walk away... but she grabbed his hand.
"If it's death... then let us face it together."
For the first time in two years... Fahad broke down and cried heavily. He widened his eyes, staring at her in disbelief.
"Ummi... do you even realize what you are saying?"
She wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
"I spent two years trying to forget you. I accepted that you hurt me, I accepted that you stopped loving me... but despite all of that, my heart never stopped loving you, Fahad."
Inside the house, the wedding festivities were in full swing. Everyone assumed the bride was still in the room getting her makeup done. Meanwhile, her entire life was on the verge of changing completely.
"But there is Adam..." Fahad said softly.
That was the name of the groom she was supposed to marry today. The good man who had gathered the pieces of her broken heart when Fahad abandoned her.
Ummi closed her eyes, consumed by overwhelming guilt.
"Adam has never done anything wrong to me..."
"Then go back to him," Fahad interrupted her. "Don't ruin his life because of a sick person like me."
Ummi shook her head forcefully. "Don't say that, please."
Caught in the Act
Before either of them could speak another word, a voice echoed from behind them:
"Ummi?"
Her entire body went cold. Slowly, she turned around... and there stood Adam.
He was dressed in a pristine white shadda outfit, his eyes filled with deep anxiety and profound hurt. Standing right behind him were two of her friends, completely speechless and frozen in absolute shock.
A heavy silence swallowed the courtyard.
Adam looked at Fahad, and then his gaze drifted down to the medical envelope in her hand.
"Who is this?"
Ummi couldn't speak. Her voice refused to come out.
Fahad took a deep breath and spoke up, "I am her ex-boyfriend."
The words struck like a thunderbolt.
Adam offered a deeply pained smile. "Oh, so that's how it is."
