ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
The Storm
A fierce storm swept through the town, destroying houses and breaking trees, which crashed to the ground. Nothing in its path was spared.
People ran for their lives, some abandoning their cars to escape the chaos.
Amid the panic, a man struggled to get out of his car. He grabbed his wife’s hands, trying to flee with her. But the storm seemed to hunt them, closing in relentlessly.
They ran carrying their young son, no older than 15.
In a matter of moments, the storm struck them. They all fell, and the boy rolled to the side of the street. The wind crushed them, blood spilling over the man’s face and even the boy’s. His mother screamed in terror, and it seemed chaos had reached its peak. Light flashed across the town, but all that could be seen on the streets was blood.
The boy watched in horror as his parents were killed. He wiped the blood off his father’s face and stared at him, crying, his own screams mingling with the disaster around him.
Aftermath
Once the storm had passed and the town began to calm, people emerged cautiously. Some whose homes had been destroyed began repairs, while others went back to their work.
While walking, the man noticed the boy. He rushed to him and saw he was still breathing. Carefully, he lifted the child and carried him a long distance to the edge of the town.
He found a nearby hut and entered, laying the boy gently on a mat. He brought water and dabbed it over the boy. The boy took a long, trembling breath and slowly opened his eyes. His gaze met the man’s, and upon seeing the stranger, he flinched in shock.
The man held him firmly and whispered prayers over him. Gradually, the boy calmed down. They sat facing each other, the man holding the boy’s hand.
Questions and Revelation
“Who are you, boy? Where are your parents?” the man asked.
Tears streamed down the boy’s face. “They were killed in front of me. My father was struck down, and my mother… I don’t know what happened to her. Maybe she was killed too.”
“Who killed them?”
“I don’t know. It was just the storm.”
“Why were you outside during the storm? Didn’t you know no one goes out on a day like this?”
“We didn’t know. We are black people from our town. We had just returned here to live.”
“Where are your siblings?”
“We have no one but God. No one loves us, so we left our home. Who are you?”
The man exhaled deeply. “My name is Malam Bukar Ganau. I am a famous scholar. I specialize in dealing with spirits. I know how to handle even the toughest ones.”
“Why do you stay in a place with no one around? Aren’t you afraid? Where are your people?”
