ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

“I will avenge my father. I swear, I will show you that a woman’s weakness does not stop her from taking revenge!”

“No, my daughter, don’t do it! You won’t be able to. Run, please! Don’t harm me or my family. Tell me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

One of the armed men laughed and said, “We don’t need anything from you. We were sent to take your life.”

The man had shown remarkable courage. Mummy and Abbas were crying as they clung tightly to me, but I felt no fear. I fixed my eyes on their leader without even blinking.

While lying there, Abbas cleverly called Uncle Hassan, our father’s younger brother, and allowed him to hear everything that was happening. Terrified by what he heard, Uncle Hassan quickly gathered some police officers and headed towards our house.

The moment the attackers heard the approaching vehicles, one of them shouted, “Boss Rezo, they’ve called the police!”

Rezo cursed loudly.

Alhaji said, “We must not make any mistakes in this operation. Send all of them to the grave, and then we’ll leave.”

They raised their guns, intending to kill us all, but one of the men said, “Boss, it would be better to set the house on fire. That way, we won’t even need to waste bullets.”

Rezo nodded. “You’re right.”

They poured petrol throughout the room, escaped through the back door and threw in a burning match. Before leaving, they shot Daddy in the hand when they saw him trying to stand.

The room was soon engulfed in flames.

Despite the terrible pain from the gunshot wound, Daddy forced himself to his feet and picked up a laptop containing a flash drive.

“My daughter,” he said weakly through his agony, “run with this. I know this is what brought them to this house. I am certain they haven’t gone far, and they will return for it.

“No one else is responsible for this except Alhaji Garba, my business partner. He has always been jealous of my success. Take this laptop and the flash drive. Do not give them to anyone until you are certain that justice will be done.

“Alhaji Garba is an evil man.”

Abba and Abbas opened the window that led outside.

Daddy ordered, “Take your mother and leave!”

Mummy cried, “I’m not going anywhere without you, Alhaji. We are together.”

He pushed her towards us and shouted, “Go!”

We jumped through the window and landed outside.

The entire house was consumed by flames before our eyes, and that was how we lost our father.

The attackers came after us, forcing us to run as fast as we could. Eventually, we separated. Mummy and Abbas took one route, while I hid inside a narrow passage because the men were getting dangerously close to where I was.

Another gunshot rang out.

Tarassss!

Startled awake, a beautiful young woman suddenly sat upright on her bed. Sweat poured from every part of her body. The room was cold from the air conditioner, yet it did nothing to stop her trembling or the perspiration running down her skin.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” she repeated over and over.

Her entire body shook as she recited prayers until she gradually regained her composure.

She stood, slipped her feet into the beautiful slippers beside the bed and switched on the light, flooding the room with brightness.

She opened a medium-sized refrigerator, took out a bottle of Swan water and pressed it to her lips. She drank the entire bottle without stopping.

After lowering it, she released a heavy sigh.

She checked the time.

It was already two o’clock in the morning.

“Where could Mummy and Abbas be right now?” she wondered.
