ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
Two young girls were walking calmly, dressed in their school uniforms: pink trousers and a white shirt, with a white hijab that stopped at their waists, as it didn’t reach their buttocks. Their school bags were strapped to their backs.
They ground to a halt at the roadside where a large crowd of students stood waiting for the school bus. "Oh my God!!!" one of the girls exclaimed.
The other looked at her in surprise. "Wow, Fareeda, are you tired already???"
The one called Fareeda snapped her fingers in annoyance. "I swear I am, Sopy, I'm exhausted."
Sopy laughed. "I seriously don't know when you will ever be strong, Fareeda. You get tired of everything, like a pregnant woman."
Fareeda glared at Sopy. "Are you going to give me the pregnancy then?!"
They both burst into laughter, clapping hands. Sopy said, "Who, me? Getting you pregnant? God forbid! Cover me up, don't expose me," and they burst into laughter again.
The arrival of a black car cut their laughter short. They fixed their eyes on the car, as if they knew the owner, or perhaps they wanted to know who it was.
A fair-skinned, slightly heavily-built young man stepped out with a smile, his eyes fixed on the girls. He approached them with a greeting of peace (sallama), which they answered warmly before greeting him back. Sopy followed up by saying, "My love, where are you coming from? So early in the chilly morning?"
He rubbed his hair and said, "My princess brought me out, right, Fareeda?"
Fareeda gave a small, forced smile and said, "That's right."
The young man smiled slightly. "Alright, let's go so you won't be late. Because at the rate that school bus of yours is going, it might be 8:00 o'clock and you still haven't left," he said, taking Sopy's school bag.
Sopy nudged Fareeda. "My friend, what are you thinking about?"
Fareeda took a deep breath. "Nothing, what did you notice?"
Sopy replied, "I don't believe you, tell me the truth!"
"Look, let's go, you can have this conversation in the car," the young man said, heading toward the car.
They followed behind him. After they got into the car, he drove off. Sopy kept insisting that Fareeda tell her what was bothering her, while Fareeda maintained that nothing was wrong.
The young man laughed. "Honestly, in all my life, I have never seen a friendship like yours, so full of love, trust, and loyalty. Tell me, when it's time for you two to get married, how is that going to work?"
Sopy looked at Fareeda. "My sister, listen to that question... As for us, by God's grace, we will get married in the same town, right?"
Fareeda replied, "By God's grace."
"Wow," the young man said. "May Allah fulfill your wishes. But even up till now, we still don't know who your friend's choice of partner is?"
"I swear, my love, that is my constant worry too," Sopy said. "I have no greater desire than to see my friend's husband, since I've already secured mine," she added, looking at the young man. He looked back at her and smiled. "Fareeda, you really need to pick a suitor, especially since we are almost done with school."
