The head of the family, Alhaji Muhammad Babayo, known as Malam Babayo, is a rich cattle merchant with two wives and five children. His eldest son, Barrister Muhammad Bello, is a lawyer, followed by Dr. Aliyu, and their only sister, Aisha. The younger brothers, Amadu and Hamisu, remain close to their parents in Mambila.
Malam Babayo is a strict but loving father who ensures that all his children receive both religious and Western education. He believes that knowledge is the key to success and wants his children to uphold the family's honor. Despite his great influence, he is a man who values humility and discipline.

Barrister Bello marries Nenne, who bears many children but loses most of them except for three. His younger brother, Dr. Aliyu, marries Ummi, and they have four children: Yusuf, Abubakar, Usman, and Aisha.
