My Enemy Part 2 Complete Hausa Novel
Razhdeen and Roshan were sitting in the grand palace hall, lined up on a polished three-legged stool, looking impressive.
The royal elder watched them with delight, constantly smiling from his seat. He was very happy to see Razhdeen. With a smile on his face, he said, "Honestly, I was pleased when your father told me you were on your way, but I was very surprised to hear that you have been in Nigeria for two months and yet you haven’t set foot here until now. Even now, you only came because of your wedding..."
Roshan smiled and said, "Uncle, please forgive us. Honestly, things have been complicated..."
The royal elder said, "I already know what you’re going to say to me. Well, you should fix that, because family ties are important..."
Roshan bowed his head and replied, "God willing, Uncle, we ask for forgiveness..."
The royal elder said, "No worries, may God bless you."
He then asked, "When is your wedding?"
Raising his head slowly, Roshan answered, "In five days. But I am the only one getting married; the twins are not."
The royal elder looked at how Uncle Deen was sitting and said, "Why, Razhdeen?"
Uncle Deen raised his head and looked at the royal elder, saying, "Uncle!"
The royal elder asked, "You’re not speaking?"
Deen moved his lips and said briefly, "I am speaking."
The royal elder said, "I noticed since I started talking, you haven’t said anything. What’s stopping you from getting married?"
Before the elder could continue, they heard Hajiya Maamie clear her throat and say, "How can you ask him when you all prevented him?"
Everyone looked at her in surprise; she didn’t even greet them, and it seemed she was upset hearing their conversation.
The royal elder said, "Haba, my dear, can’t you even greet us?"
She shot him a sharp glare full of bitterness and said, "There’s no need to greet when you are planning to disgrace me openly. For God's sake, Your Highness, because of your dishonesty, we already decided that you should marry Razhdeen to Ramlat if he agrees, and the weddings should be on the same day, all together. But now you ask him what stops him from marrying? Who do you think will marry him?"
The royal elder shook his head and said, "Maamie, have you watched the whole drama? Please stop dragging me into this. I am also planning the same thing, I want to combine their weddings..."
Hajiya Maamie shrugged and said, "Fine, if you want to see happiness, I will send Ramlat to meet him."
With that, she left.
The royal elder bowed his head, admiring Maamie's courage.
Razhdeen did not fully understand what they meant. He turned to look at Roshan, who was also staring at Uncle Deen, equally confused about the idea of combining Razhdeen and Ramlat. Seeing they didn’t understand, they all turned their attention back to the royal elder, who was still sitting quietly.
Roshan broke the silence, "Uncle, what’s going on? You look troubled..."
The royal elder slowly looked up and asked, "Does Razhdeen have someone he loves?"
He asked Roshan because he thought Roshan might answer faster.
Roshan said, "Honestly, Uncle, I don’t know, but as far as I know, he has never had a girlfriend and so far, there isn’t anyone."
Before Roshan finished, the elder stopped him, saying, "Enough, Roshan. Everyone knows Razhdeen isn’t interested in women."
The royal elder continued, looking at Razhdeen with a serious face, "Razhdeen, what I want is for you to have your wedding combined with Roshan’s. I have already chosen the woman you will marry since you can’t decide for yourself..."
He stopped, staring at Razhdeen, who had no expression.
"Who is she?" he asked quietly.
The royal elder said, "My sister, Maamie, her name is Ramlat. She lives here with us."
Razhdeen shook his head to speak but before he could, Ramlat entered with greetings on her lips carrying a tray of food bowls. She placed it on the glass table in the middle of the hall. Shortly after, three servants came in, each carrying trays of food, set them down, and left. Ramlat sat on the carpet, greeting them. Only Roshan responded; Razhdeen didn’t even look at her. She was heavily made up and smelled of perfume, secretly glancing at Roshan.
In her heart, she loved Roshan because he was gentle and didn’t care about appearances. Among all of them, no one was more handsome than him, only God truly knew.
The royal elder kept looking at Razhdeen, who was pressing his phone but not lifting his head.
The royal elder summoned courage and said, "Razhdeen, meet Ramlat, the woman I want to marry you to. Please look at her well and don’t disgrace us. I chose her for you; I have never asked anything from you before, except now..."
Razhdeen raised his head angrily, looking at the elder and said quietly, "Uncle, what exactly do you want me to do?"
The royal elder said, "To marry this girl..." He pointed at Ramlat, then added, "I already spoke to your father, and he agreed. We’ve settled that your wedding will be today, God willing, and Ramlat will stay in Nigeria until the wedding day."
Razhdeen’s whole day darkened; his eyes blinked rapidly. Raising his voice he said, "Are you giving me orders or choices?"
The royal elder was startled by how Razhdeen’s mood changed suddenly.
Roshan quickly patted his shoulder to comfort him, knowing that if Razhdeen got too upset, he might embarrass everyone, and they all deeply respected the elder.
Razhdeen, noticing the silence, repeated, "I’m asking if you’re giving orders or choices?"
Ramlat, sitting there, had tightened up. Her chest pounded because she feared Razhdeen, so their feelings didn’t meet.
The royal elder, hesitating, said, "We are giving you an order, Razhdeen."
Razhdeen’s eyes narrowed at the elder, and said, "What!? You mean you’re saying marriage is compulsory? That’s impossible..."
He stood up abruptly to leave, with Roshan quickly following him.
The royal elder only watched them leave, knowing deep down he didn’t like this union either. He was only doing it because of his wife Maamie, but he knew Razhdeen had never liked being forced.
He looked at Ramlat and said, "So, given what happened, will you live with him like this?"
Ramlat cried, "Uncle, it’s Aunty Maamie who wants this. I love Roshan. I know Uncle Deen will never love me..."
The royal elder nodded and said, "Roshan is also the man you will marry..."
Ramlat pleaded, "For God’s sake, Uncle, I love Roshan. What will stop you from letting him marry two wives, me and the one he wants to marry? I will live with him like this..."
The royal elder said, "Alright, go now; I will make a decision..."
She got up and left quickly.
Razhdeen intended to leave the country altogether, but Roshan kept trying to calm him, wanting to help.
Razhdeen insisted, "Please, I want to go back to Nigeria; after that, I will go to the U.S. I feel disrespected. Am I supposed to be forced to marry? And to this rude girl who insults her aunt in front of me? Impossible..."
Roshan held his hands and apologized for what he said, "My friend, calm down. God willing, this union won’t happen. I don’t like that girl either. Plus, her behavior is bad, but let’s handle this carefully. Look at Uncle’s status; he’s like a father to us. Uncle is not like your father; he’s easier to deal with. Let’s go talk to him and explain that you have someone you want."
Razhdeen finally gave in, and they returned to the palace, heading to the place prepared for them. At that moment, Razhdeen didn’t want to say anything.
Indo was sitting on a mat holding her cellphone when she heard Maamie shouting from the hall, and she got worried.
She quickly got up and rushed out to see what was happening.
In the hall, she found the royal elder sitting on the sofa, Maamie standing over him with her mouth wide open, and Ramlat sitting in a one-seater, her hand on her forehead.
Indo hated seeing Maamie causing trouble for the royal elder; it was shameful.
Indo came closer and asked, "Are you okay?"
Maamie, angrily looking at her from beneath her hijab, raised a finger and said, "Don’t involve yourself. I am not talking to you. Since long ago, I told you to stop interfering when I’m talking to my husband."
Indo said, "I heard the noise, so I came to see what was going on."
Maamie shouted, "Well, it’s none of your business. If you hear what’s happening, what will you do?"
