After the Wedding Ceremony
On the bride Aneesha’s side, ever since the marriage was conducted, she had remained quiet and withdrawn. People kept coming in to congratulate her, and all she could give them was a forced smile.
She was afraid that Prince Aliyu might humiliate her. The royal children were known to be proud and commanding, and she did not want a situation where, after their marriage, he would start belittling her. As for loving him, any woman could love him, because no one could see Prince Aliyu and say they did not like him. He was handsome, fair, elegant, and well-groomed. His hair was always neatly styled. Any woman who saw him would naturally be drawn to him. But even so, she feared that his wealth and good looks might make him look down on her.
Even with all that, she kept trying to calm herself in her heart until it was finally time for the bride to be taken away.
A car was brought. Their town was very rural, and the cars that came from the groom’s side looked almost too grand for the place. Aneesha and her people came from a very small village, with not even up to twenty houses in it. But despite that, they raised their children with discipline and good morals. All the children in the village attended Islamic school, and Aneesha herself was known for her modesty and good upbringing.
They kept waiting, and the cars were about forty in number. There were not even that many people. Some people entered one by one, while the rest of the cars drove away empty.
As for Aneesha, she was wrapped in an expensive material cloth, but she could not stop crying. Whenever she thought about the life she was going to live in Prince Aliyu’s house, she would cry deeply, to the point that one could hear the heaviness of her sobs.
It was when someone held her arm that she raised her head.
Arrival at the Palace
When she saw Prince Aliyu, she drew herself back a little, but he pulled her closer.
“Have you forgotten that I am your husband?” he whispered to her.
She did not answer him. She only wiped away her tears. Seeing that, he stretched out his hand and lifted the veil covering her face.
Then he used his hand to wipe away her tears.
At that moment, it seemed to her as though no hand in the world was softer than his.
“Why are you crying? You can see that I am not crying, can’t you?”
Still, she said nothing, because it felt as though her throat had been sealed. He pulled her close and embraced her until they reached the royal palace.
From the gate alone, one could already see the palace guards. Aneesha’s heart dropped heavily.
She was taken to the part of the palace prepared for her. Masha Allah, the house was truly beautiful. Of course, Aneesha’s village people could only marvel in amazement at the many things that had been provided for her.
After they had finished looking around the house, they got back into the cars and were taken back to their village.
The bride was left alone there, trembling with fear because of the room she was now in.
Not long after, the groom came in with his friends. They sat down, prayers were offered, and then later they all left, leaving only the bride and groom behind.
After they left, Prince Aliyu moved closer to her.
“Princess, I welcome you.”
She looked at him with her beautiful, charming eyes and said, “Thank you, Prince.”
“Get up, let us pray.”
She lowered her head and said, “I am not praying.”
He remained silent for a while and said, “Okay.”
Then he got up and held her hand.
“We should go and greet His Majesty.”
“We will go tomorrow morning,” he said.
“Please, Prince, let us go now. They are like parents to me, and besides, we are in the same house. If we do not go today and wait until tomorrow…”
She went silent, unable to continue. He placed his hand on her lips and said, “Shhhh… either say something good or keep quiet.”
Then he held her hand and led her toward the King’s quarters.
When the palace guards saw them, they all bowed to the ground in greeting. Aneesha, however, did not like the way the guards acted at all.
When they reached the King, only he and the Waziri were there. As soon as the Waziri saw them enter, his face changed.
They both bowed down low and greeted His Majesty. Aneesha also greeted the Waziri, and he looked at her with dislike, but even that did not bother her.
“Prince, is everything alright?”
“Everything is fine, Your Majesty. We came to greet you.”
The King was very pleased, even though he knew it was because of Aneesha’s insistence.
“May Allah bless your marriage.”
Then he prayed for them, and after that they stood up and went to see the Prince’s mother. She too was very happy to see them, because she had not expected them to come and greet her.
Their First Private Moments
Then they returned to their own quarters. Prince Aliyu performed ablution and observed his prayer. Aneesha sat there quietly without saying anything. After he finished, he came toward her, prayed for her, and kissed her on the forehead.
She became shy.
“Princess, go and bathe…”
She stood up, but by mistake she nearly fell. She even shut her eyes, thinking she was about to hit the ground.
When she felt herself being caught, she opened her eyes and saw that it was Prince Aliyu holding her.
He kept looking at her as though he had never seen her before, while she became nervous under his gaze.
“Thank you, Prince.”
He released her, and she entered the bathroom. But when she saw that she did not even know how to use the things inside, she came back out.
“You have not bathed yet?”
She pouted and said, “I do not know how…”
Then she fell silent.
“Go on, finish what you were saying.”
“I do not know how to use them,” she said, closing her eyes.
He gently opened her eyes and said, “Am I not here? Then I will teach you.”
She jumped a little and said, “Really?”
“Yes, of course. I can do anything for my wife.”
Then he began teaching her how to use everything.
When she saw the bathtub full of water, she sat close to him and asked, “What is this pond-like thing? Do people actually bathe in it here? And why is it full of foam?”
He laughed so much that he almost bent over.
She looked at him and said, “What is so funny about that?”
With difficulty, he controlled his laughter and held her hand as they stepped inside. But her heart kept pounding heavily.
They sat inside together, while she was terribly afraid.
“Please remove me from here. What if something bites me?”
He laughed again and said, “Princess, nothing will happen to you.”
She stood up suddenly, but his leg touched her, and she fell into the water.
At once she hit him and cried out, “Oh no, Prince, please take me out of here!”
He pulled her close, and she clung tightly to him, unable to even breathe properly. He used his hand to wipe the water that had entered her eyes.
“Ouch… Prince, my eyes hurt so much!”
“Sorry,” he said, blowing gently into her eyes.
With difficulty, she opened her eyes, then began to cry.
“Please, Prince, let us leave this place. I am afraid. I only like bathing with a bucket. I am very scared of this thing.”
He laughed again.
“Prince, what is funny about this? I told you I am afraid.”
“What would make you afraid when I am with you?”
He placed his hand on her lips, those lips already decorated with red dye, and gently stroked them. Then he bit his own lip. With his other hand, he caressed her face.
He drew even closer to her and placed his lips on hers. She immediately shut her eyes tight, her heart beating wildly.
He kissed her as though he had found a sweet lollipop. As for her, her whole body went weak.
He looked at her and said, “Why are you so quiet?”
It was only then that she opened her eyes and embraced him tightly.
