A Shocking Encounter at Work
 
Maryama’s life takes a terrifying turn when DG M. Malik, a high-ranking company official, suddenly drags her toward his office in front of stunned coworkers. They don’t intervene—not out of cruelty, but shock—since M. Malik had never shown personal interest in any female employee before. Maryama’s screams for help go unanswered, her struggle futile as he holds her tightly and forces her inside.
 
Inside, she sees an entire room filled with sketched portraits of her face, drawings she’s never seen before. Shock and fear paralyze her. M. Malik pleads, explaining the images came from his boss’s dreams. The boss, Mr. ATA, has spent years searching for her and is madly in love—desperate to meet the woman haunting his visions.
 
He begs her to come with him, claiming ATA could die without her. Maryama, trembling, backs away, suspecting madness or worse—possibly dark spiritual manipulation. “Maybe a jinn came to him with my image,” she says, refusing to believe she’s the one in the sketches.
 
A Desperate Escape
 
Despite Malik’s continued pleas, Maryama furiously rejects him. “You’re insane if you think I’m her,” she screams, slapping him twice with full force. The shock stuns Malik, leaving him dazed and motionless. Taking her chance, Maryama locks him inside the office, runs out, and finds herself under the judgmental eyes of coworkers. Overwhelmed by fear, shame, and confusion, she catches a ride from the company gate and exits at Oshodi under bridge.
 
Determined never to return, Maryama tells herself she’d rather quit than face such horror again. She catches a second vehicle toward Agege, her mind still tormented by the strange encounter. Her thoughts replay the moment she saw her own image on those walls. Was it a coincidence? A warning? Or a trap?
 
When she gets home, she’s greeted by her mother, Umma, and their neighbor, Ladi na Amadu. Maryama hides her distress, answering lightly and avoiding further questions. But Ladi, studying Maryama’s mature composure, suggests her son, Sadam, might be a perfect match. Umma laughs, noting that Maryama is expensive and wouldn’t marry someone without means.
 
Later, Maryama breaks down before her aunt (Aunty), finally sharing everything. Her aunt listens quietly, then calmly suggests that the man might not be evil—just obsessed with a dream. “Maybe his boss saw a woman who looks like you,” she says, brushing off the fear. But Maryama is firm: she will never return to that workplace again.
 
Malik and ATA: Confusion and Chaos
 
Meanwhile, M. Malik is frantic, locked in the office and unable to contact Mr. ATA. ATA had switched off his phones and was passed out in his room after drinking himself into oblivion. Malik had hoped to surprise him with news that the woman from his dreams was real—but now, he couldn’t even reach him.
 
Worried, Malik heads to ATA’s estate, but the guards inform him that ATA isn’t home. Puzzled, Malik wonders, “Didn’t he just get married yesterday? Shouldn’t he be with his bride?” Unsure of ATA’s current location, and stuck in traffic, Malik sends a text:
 
> “Slm sir. Please call me, I have gist for you.”
 
Elsewhere, ATA lies unconscious, surrounded by his closest associates—M.B., Salim, Yaya Ibrahim Amar, and Hisham. They’re worried, watching over him, concerned about the toll his emotional state and alcohol abuse is taking on him.
 
When Hisham sees Malik’s missed calls, he realizes Malik must have something urgent. Still, he pockets his phone, unwilling to distract the group’s attention from ATA, who lies vulnerable, possibly broken.
 
This chapter blends emotional tension, psychological fear, romantic obsession, and personal turmoil. Maryama’s terror is raw and justifiable, given the surreal nature of her encounter, while M. Malik is caught between loyalty and guilt. Meanwhile, ATA’s mysterious obsession deepens, and the lives of everyone involved spiral closer toward a collision.
