ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
'Yar Kadde village is a settlement in our country, Nigeria, located in Nasarawa State. It is a town that brings together diverse people and multiple ethnic groups. It is a small community comprising both Muslims and non-Muslims, living in peace amid abundance and fertile land, where they engage in various types of farming.
It is in this very town that I have pitched my tent today. Here I stand, at the entrance of a modest house—a traditional mud-brick dwelling typical of our local setting. A short distance from the house lies a small clinic, and further down stands a small primary school.
I stepped inside the house to bring you this report.
"Joy, you know there's church today, right?" Joy remained silent, acting as though her mother wasn't speaking to her. "Joy, I'm talking to you and you can hear me. You never start your nonsense until Sunday. As soon as Sunday arrives, you start brooding. Hurry up and get dressed to meet me there—time is running out, and don't even think about not coming!" Her mother clicked her tongue and shook her head at her.
Even after her mother left the spot, Joy didn't get up; she remained seated right where her mother had left her, staying there for nearly an hour.
It was during this time that I took a closer look at her. She is a young girl, no older than 16 years. She is fair-complexioned and tall, with facial features that are neither ugly nor exceptionally stunning—just average.
She has a well-proportioned figure and a calm demeanor, dressed in sleepwear that fits her neatly.
Calmly, she went into the kitchen and scooped a small portion of leftover jollof rice into a soup bowl—a portion fit for a two-year-old. She returned to her room to eat, though she didn't even finish it before setting it aside. She then drew bathwater into a bucket and went to the bathroom.
She took a long time before emerging. She dressed in a small top and long trousers—the shirt was tight-fitting, accentuating her figure.
She combed her hair, which was black, beautiful, and rested along her back.
Without applying any makeup to her face, she picked up her Bible, locked up their house, and set off toward the church, which wasn't far from their home.
