ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

A Restless Morning by the Rocks
I spent the night turning on my bed, afraid he might report me at home, since he had already reported me to Aunty before. When morning came peacefully, I took my bath and wore a long flowing gown with double layers—what one might call a Saudi or Dubai style dress. Without even covering my head, I left the house and headed toward the rocky hill where I usually went to relax.
It was only eight o’clock in the morning. I had excused Mansura from accompanying me, and I didn’t even stop to eat breakfast. As I stood there, I found myself imagining the impossible—that the Prince had been offended by what I said yesterday and had decided to release me to go and marry Anwar. I lifted my head toward his balcony and saw him seated, legs crossed on the table before him.
I turned away and climbed the rock. After about fifteen minutes, I felt like stepping into the small stream nearby by walking across the line of stones arranged through the shallow water. Those stones were placed so that if you stepped carefully, your feet would not touch the water.
I removed my shoes and slowly stepped onto the stones, moving gently until I stood in the middle, looking around. I glanced toward Faysal’s balcony again. Just as I turned back, clicking my tongue in irritation, I suddenly saw a huge snake moving toward me through the water, its head raised and hissing.
I don’t know when I stepped back and began screaming. Within seconds, it blocked my path. I froze as it hissed menacingly. I shut my eyes tightly and kept screaming—until my cries turned into calling the Prince.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp strike on my foot. I screamed loudly and opened my eyes to see Prince Faysal running toward me with others behind him.
“Snake! Snake!!” I cried.
He didn’t bother stepping on the stones carefully; I only saw him rushing through the water. My vision became blurry. I heard distant voices, then felt someone shaking me and calling my name. The ground seemed to spin beneath me.
I faintly sensed the Prince shouting orders. I believe he carried me in his arms and ran—but after that, I knew nothing.
Waking in the Prince’s Arms
Slowly, I tried to open my eyes. I heard his voice calling, “Yasmin! Yasmin!!” I felt his hand on my forehead.
“She moved?” someone asked.
“Yes, her eyes are moving.”
For about five minutes I struggled, unable to open my eyes, though I could hear everything. Something cold touched my forehead, helping me finally lift my eyelids. The first face I saw was Faysal sitting beside my bed, holding the cold object.
The moment he saw my eyes open, he dropped it, lifted my head, and embraced me tightly against his chest with a deep sigh of relief.
“She’s awake,” he said.
He gently laid me back down, adjusted my position, and kissed my forehead. Soon, people began peeping into the room to greet me. Their eyes were red, as though they had been crying.
Gradually, I recognized their faces. The women I knew, but most of the men were unfamiliar—except for about five close aides around him. My room attendants were still crying.
After about fifteen minutes, everyone left. The Prince stood up, picked up his phone, and began making calls.
“Good evening… yes, it’s been twenty minutes now… yes, she recognizes people… no, I haven’t checked yet, I’ll check now… please come quickly, Mama…”
He made another call.
“Good evening… yes, it’s the Prince… yes, Mamee… it’s been twenty-one minutes… Daddy can come now, she’s seen him… yes, she’ll hear… we’re downstairs…”
He ended the calls and returned to sit close beside me. He gently stroked my hair and adjusted it to one side.
“Sorry,” he said softly.
When I didn’t respond, he leaned closer. “Yasmin, can you hear me?”
I nodded slightly. He exhaled deeply, closed his eyes briefly, then quickly kissed my cheeks.
Care and Tenderness
He carefully lifted the blanket covering my legs. That was when I remembered—the snake had bitten me. I tried moving my leg, but it felt like stone. He gently lifted it and ran his hand over it.
“Is my leg dead, Prince?” I asked weakly.
He moved closer, holding my hand as he sat beside me, one knee bent up on the bed.
“It’s not dead. You’ll recover completely,” he said, kissing my hand. His concern made me feel emotional.
“Can you eat something?” he asked.
I shook my head.
“No, you must eat at least something, even if it’s liquid,” he insisted, standing up. “Let me brush your teeth first.”
He returned quickly from the bathroom holding my toothbrush already prepared with paste, a large cup of water, and a bowl. He placed three pillows behind me and carefully lifted me into a sitting position. He adjusted the blanket around my waist and settled everything properly.
He held the cup to my lips. “Rinse first.”
I took a sip. He set the cup aside and held the bowl before me.
“Spit here.”
When I spat, I saw the redness in my saliva mixed with foam. I felt embarrassed, but he showed no sign of disgust. He gave me water again to rinse and emptied the bowl afterward.
When he brought the toothbrush closer, I raised my hand to take it.
“I can do it,” I said.
