Hibba Part 1 Complete Hausa Novel
From the way she was sitting inside the car, she could see the tall palace building— a building that you would immediately call a royal palace because of how it was designed: beautiful, grand, complex, and tall... Over the years, the palace hadn’t changed much, only a fresh coat of paint and some usual repairs here and there... If she hadn’t lost count, it had been at least fifteen years since she separated from this palace, a palace that carried bitter memories for her... How could she ever forget those years, the pain, the trials, and struggles she faced? This palace was her prison... A palace that held her fate, a palace that changed the story of her life, a palace she saw as a prison in her eyes, built on oppressive rule while fooling people with false promises of good manners... A palace without mercy or compassion inside...
At the same time, she placed her hands behind her back and wiped the tears that were rolling down her cheeks... The young man sitting beside her, no older than thirty, shook his head slightly, forcing out his anger slowly... At the same time, he said:
“HIBBAH, if you follow my advice, withdraw this decision of yours. Forget everything and entrust your affairs to God; He will reward you in time. I’m sure that after what they did to you and your parents, God will not leave them unpunished. By God, He will repay them... So please, withdraw your decision... The reign of this world is not permanent; they too will leave one day, just like your father did... So please, withdraw your decision...!” He finished carefully.
The young woman, about 29 years old, smiled with pain and said, “Ansar, by God, I will not withdraw my decision... By God, I will shame them in the eyes of the world... I will overthrow their oppressive rule... I will show the world what kind of people they really are... By God, I will not leave them like this. Now is the right time to return, right when they have lost their father. I’m sure this is when their fight for the throne will begin, and I will use this opportunity...!” She spoke with determination, looking at Ansar and then back at the palace building. At the same time, she smiled painfully and began to say:
“The family of King AbdulJabbar, I have come back to you. But this time I don’t come as Saudatu, the black, bad, and disgraceful girl... I come as MUHIBBAH, as Muhibbah, the beloved... Prepare yourselves for your downfall, your humiliation, and your chaos... I will be your disaster and plague; I will become your hunger and your food; just like I will become your drought, I will become your flood... I’ll take you down to the ground, all of you... One after another... By God, I will throw you into chaos and greater misery than you threw me and my parents into... By God, I will scatter all the powers and thrones you hold... This is a promise!!!” She finished, wiping more tears that fell.
They sat inside the car near the gate as Ansar parked. Suddenly, they started hearing sirens... The entire neighborhood was on alert, with people clearing the way. You could see luxury cars arriving at the main palace gate, and even a vehicle with the Jos Emirate Council’s number plate... A tall man dressed in red clothes, like a horseman, slammed his hand on the door of a Duruma, driving away the crowd and shouting, “Please, forgive the commoners... The Crown Prince has come, the Heir Apparent has arrived...”
Ansar looked at her and repeated what the man said:
“THE HEIR APPARENT...?” She asked, clearly puzzled.
Ansar nodded and said, “From what I heard, today they are expecting the arrival of the eldest son of the late King AbdulJabbar, Prince MAHMOOD AbdulJabbar Mahmood... He is the eldest of the king’s sons. Apparently, he has arrived; today was the expected day of his return from Spain, Madrid.”
She frowned and said, “I already know he is the eldest among King AbdulJabbar’s children, but my question is, hasn’t he been out of the country all these years?”
Ansar exhaled slowly and said, “Indeed, he has not been in the country. I’m sure the dispute over the throne made him return; otherwise, Prince Mahmood would never come back to Nigeria. He has been in Europe for almost fifteen years.”
Her knees gave out and she fell back. Standing up, she looked at Ansar, who continued explaining, but she stopped him:
“Wait, you said he hasn’t been in Nigeria for fifteen years...?”
He nodded and said, “Yes, fifteen years. He’s been in Spain with his late wife and a daughter about fourteen years old.”
Muhibbah frowned, “His late wife...?”
Ansar nodded and said, “It’s been one year since his wife passed away. She was a local girl, not from the royal family or nobility. From what I heard, the way she and her family were treated pushed him to leave the country with his family. He married her in Nigeria, then moved to Spain. God blessed them with a daughter, a girl. Last year they came back to Nigeria, only to find her body in a room. The cause of her death is unknown, and no one knows who killed her. Just her body was found... After a few months, he also lost his father, King AbdulJabbar, the same year he lost his wife Princess Aliya. It became a year of misery for Prince Mahmood. Since then, he took his daughter and returned to Spain, not returning to Nigeria until now, when the issue of handing over the throne came up... As you know, King AbdulJabbar has brothers and uncles who are also fighting for the throne... And I’m sure Hajiya Turai, King AbdulJabbar’s widow, will never allow this throne to slip from her children’s hands...”
Mentioning Hajiya Turai stirred a strange fire in her chest, as if it was burning inside...
Slowly she whispered, “Enough of that, I don’t want to hear about them or their names...”
Ansar looked at her sideways and shook his head: “And with that, you say you are ready to live within their palace... Tell me, Hibbah, how will you face people whose names you don’t even want to hear, let alone live with under the same roof? Hibbah, I beg you with all I have, please withdraw your decision. Let’s focus on our relationship, please...” He ended with a soft voice.
She sighed deeply and said, “Doc, please, not now... Please grant me this favor, let me fulfill my desire to destroy the household of King AbdulJabbar just like they destroyed mine. I promise that once I fulfill this desire, I will tell Mummy, and we can set a date... The only big favor you can do for me now is to get me into this palace so I can find a place inside it...!”
Hearing that, he looked at her a bit and said, “Alright, I will get you into this palace, but on one condition...”
She looked up and stared at him slightly and asked, “What is the condition?”
Ansar adjusted his seat and said, “Nurse, my condition is that when I escort you into the palace, you will tell me what the family of the late King AbdulJabbar did to you that makes you want to destroy their relationship...”
Her knees gave out again. She knew this dark story meant more trouble for her heart, but she had no choice. If this was what it would take for Ansar to get her into the palace, she would remember her past, relive the painful chapters of her life that always threw her into deep despair, just to end her misery...
Ansar interrupted her thoughts, asking, “Do we have a deal...?”
She forced a smile and nodded slowly, saying, “I’ll tell you, my Dr...!”
He smiled gently, started the car, and said, “We should take the road to Bauchi before Mummy starts calling us...”
Muhibbah smiled softly and said, “I’m sure I have missed calls from her too, since my phone has been off all day...”
He nodded, looking toward the gate and said, “We are close now, but once it’s night, tell me if any exams are scheduled, even though I brought you here to write your exams...”
She pouted slightly and said, “Alright, I understand. No one should come between me and Mummy...”
He smiled this time, and they took the road to Bauchi.
JOS (PALACE)
Three sharp-looking men stood at the entrance of a luxury Kamfacecen parlor, each dressed in traditional royal attire: Kaftan, matching trousers, cap, and shoes. They were handsome men, all closely resembling each other but with the eldest looking more mature. The eldest held the hand of a young girl about 14 years old walking with them. They continued chatting and joking.
"God bless the King... Mahamuda, grandson of Mahamuda, rightful heir... God grant you your kingdom, Mahamuda rules and will continue to rule... Forward the peace, no backward peace, God prolong the reign of the Crown Prince..."
These were the kind of greetings they gave him. Two of the men smiled widely, but one looked like he had seen his death, as if the chants were poisoning his soul...
