ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

Hauwa Kulu: A Story of Strength and Survival
A Journey of Struggles
Hauwa and her mother, Inna, found themselves homeless and wandering in Kano. After losing their home to Inna’s wicked brother-in-law, they had no choice but to seek shelter elsewhere. With no relatives to turn to, they ended up at a marketplace, hoping to find help.
Finding Shelter
In their search for food and safety, they encountered hostility from strangers. A tea seller chased them away, calling them beggars. This deeply hurt Hauwa, who was blind but refused to accept pity. However, kindness soon found them. A woman named Hajiya Ladi, who sold food at the market, took them in. She gave them a small room and offered Inna work at her food stall in exchange for shelter and meals.
A New Beginning
Hauwa and Inna worked hard at the food stall, learning the business. Hauwa, despite her blindness, assisted in washing dishes and preparing food. Over time, they gained the trust and respect of customers. Their hard work paid off, and Inna became skilled at cooking, which increased sales.
A Tragic Loss
Just as life seemed to improve, tragedy struck. Hajiya Ladi, their kind benefactor, fell seriously ill. On her deathbed, she revealed her true identity—she had fled from her wealthy home years ago due to a forced marriage. She entrusted her business to Inna and asked her to return her savings to her father in Gombe. Shortly after, she passed away, leaving Inna and Hauwa heartbroken.
Building a Future
Determined to honor Hajiya Ladi’s wish, Inna traveled to Gombe and returned the savings to her family. They blessed her and allowed her to keep the business. Back in Kano, Inna expanded the food business, and they moved into a better home.
Hauwa’s Education and Challenges
Despite her disability, Hauwa was determined to continue her education. With Inna’s support, she re-enrolled in school and excelled in her studies. She refused to let blindness define her. She faced challenges, including unwanted advances from men at the marketplace, but she remained firm and focused on her dreams.
A Bright Future
As Hauwa prepared for her final exams, she wondered what life had in store for her. She knew her mother wanted to protect her from heartbreak and bad decisions. Would she ever find love? Would she go to university? Hauwa believed that with faith and determination, she could overcome any obstacle.
