ABOUT THIS BOOK

Description

Adamawa State (Fulfulde: Leydi Adamawa) is located in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It is one of the largest states in Nigeria, covering an area of approximately 36,917 square kilometres. The state shares borders with Borno State to the northwest, Gombe State to the west, Taraba State to the south and southwest, and the Republic of Cameroon to the east. The state derived its name from the historic Adamawa Emirate, whose former capital, Yola, is now the capital of Adamawa State.

Adamawa is one of Nigeria’s most diverse states, with more than 100 indigenous languages. It was created in 1991 when the former Gongola State was divided to form Adamawa and Taraba states.

Among Nigeria’s 36 states, Adamawa is one of the largest in terms of land area, but it ranks 13th among the least populated states, with an estimated population of approximately 4.25 million people, according to the 2016 estimate. Geographically, the state consists of hills and mountain ranges, including the Atlantika, Mandara, and Shebshi mountains, as well as the Adamawa Plateau, with rivers flowing around the mountainous areas.

Adamawa State experiences both hot and cold weather conditions. The hot season begins around November, and the state becomes extremely hot during this period. The cold season usually lasts from December to February each year.
