Fatima's life was ruled by others. Her foster mother, Hajiya Sadiya, saw her as a threat. Arif, the supposed caretaker, was her oppressor. Once, when Fatima was in pain from a toothache, Arif mocked her, dragged her to the hospital, and then beat her for being weak. At the hospital, Dr. Ammar sympathized and gave her medicine, noticing her quiet resilience.
