ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
She scowled as her eyes met her grandmother's, saying, "Oh, Grandma, even though I was so excited to see you, you're going to ask if I've gotten into trouble?" She turned around, intending to leave, but Grandma quickly pulled her back, smiling warmly and saying, "Come back, come back! I didn't recognize your voice. Welcome, welcome, my namesake!" She finished her words by pulling the girl close and wrapping her in a warm embrace.
Just then, an elderly, fair-skinned man walked in with a greeting. Seeing the two of them like that, he let out a soft smile.
The girl quickly slipped out of Grandma’s hold and headed into the room. She fetched a mat and spread it out for her father to sit on. Hearing them begin to exchange pleasantries, she went back into Grandma's room.
She began tidying up, even though the room was already clean—Grandma being an extremely neat woman. She neatly smoothed out the bed so flawlessly it looked like no one was meant to sit on it, and then grabbed a broom to sweep the floor.
Once she was finished, she picked up a small incense burner and headed toward Grandma's tiny kitchen in the courtyard.
As she passed in front of them, both of them turned to look at her. Just as she was about to reach the kitchen, Grandma called out:
"My namesake, you won't find any hot coals in that kitchen! Your father has banned me from using the clay stove now."
Turning around slowly, the girl asked, "So you don't burn incense with hot coals anymore?"
"I get them from the place where they roast corn," Grandma replied.
Thrilled, the girl hurried toward the entrance of the house, calling out, "Let me go get some!"
When Grandma turned her gaze back to her son, she saw him sitting in silence with his head bowed. Clearing her throat, she said, "My goodness, a child grows up so fast! Just look at how big my namesake has gotten—even if she were married off right now, she'd manage a household just fine."
He quickly raised his head and said, "Grandma, you've touched on a nerve. I'm starting to get really worried. Ever since we were on the road today, my heart has been in my mouth."
With deep care, she reassured him, "Rest your mind. God willing, He will protect her and nothing bad will happen. Besides, my namesake—thank God—is sensible, modest, and neat."
"Hmm... Grandma, there's a certain trait I've noticed in her that I haven't heard anyone else mention yet. I don't know if I'm the only one seeing it."
"Listen to me, I don't want any beatings around the bush or overthinking. Don't say another word—now that she has finished secondary school, as soon as a suitor comes along, she should be married off. Even if you hope for her to further her education, she can pursue that in her husband's house."
He let out a sigh just as the girl rushed back inside and went straight into Grandma's room. Within moments, a lovely fragrance filled the entire house.
Grandma and her son continued their conversation until he eventually picked up his car keys from the mat, bade her farewell, and walked out.
