ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
He checked his phone again, quickening his pace as he said, "They are waiting for me, don't worry. I'll be right back, I won't be long," before hurriedly heading outside.
I followed him with my eyes until he left the house, and then I heard the sound of his Lifan motorcycle starting up.
Resting my chin in my hand, I stared at the food flasks I had placed in the middle of the living room carpet. I had spent so much time preparing this dinner just to please him, and despite being pregnant and hungry, I had chosen to wait so we could eat together as we usually did. Yet, as soon as he came home, he simply showered and dashed back out, claiming his uncle was looking for him.
He had been doing this to me for two days now.
I sat there deeply upset, clicking my tongue in frustration. Realizing that if I kept sitting there without eating I would only harm myself and my unborn baby, I dished out some food and began to eat.
I didn't eat much. I covered the rest and pulled my phone closer to start chatting—the only thing that could relieve my loneliness and the frustration of Mahfuz leaving me all alone in the house like a witch.
Mahfuz didn't return until around ten in the evening. By then, my anger had reached its peak, and I was restlessly shaking my leg. When he walked in and offered a greeting, I murmured a reply under my breath. He smiled and said, "I'm so sorry, my love. I accompanied my uncle somewhere and had no idea we would be delayed like this. Please forgive me, my wife."
I don't know why I can never stay angry with Mahfuz for long. Whenever he smiles and speaks to me in that gentle voice, I just feel my anger melt away.
He opened the plastic bag he had brought with him, saying, "Look at the treats I brought you."
Being pregnant, I quickly snatched the bag from him. Seeing milk candy (alewar madara) and gurasa, my face lit up with a wide smile, since I loved anything made with milk and sugar.
As I started eating the milk candy, I looked down at Mahfuz, who had sat on the carpet and was typing away on his phone.
"Aren't you going to eat the food?"
"Honestly, my uncle forced me to eat at his house. Just reheat it for me tomorrow before I leave."
"Won't you take even a single spoonful? I cooked this specifically for you."
"I already told you to just reheat it for me tomorrow. I'm completely full right now."
Though I wasn't happy about it, I went back to eating my milk candy, while he stretched out his legs, holding his phone with both hands and typing with a slight smile on his face.
