ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
The Birth of Aminatu
The narrator describes the joy in the family after their mother gave birth to a baby girl named Aminatu after eight years without childbirth. The house was filled with relatives celebrating, special food was prepared, and everyone was happy about the new baby.
Family Relationships and Childhood Life
The narrator explains the close friendship between their mother and Ammi, their neighbor, whose family was deeply connected to theirs. They describe the family members on both sides, their ages, marriages, and the narrator’s own appearance and personality. It also shows that the narrator was especially loved in the family, while Khadija was often jealous of them.
Jealousy and the Ice Incident
Khadija’s jealousy became obvious when she poured ice on the narrator’s head during Ramadan, causing the narrator to faint from the cold. Their father became angry and punished Khadija, who then ran away to Momi’s house. The narrator stayed quiet with Ammi, showing that they disliked fighting even though they liked teasing people.
