Unfulfilled Dreams of Marriage
 
Before marriage, every woman has dreams and hopes of how she wants her married life to be — filled with care, kindness, and her husband’s love. However, for most women, those dreams die after marriage, leaving them in a life of sorrow and frustration, as though they were buried alive. The harsh reality of today’s marriages has broken the spirit of many women; some even grow to hate men and marriage itself but stay in their homes for various reasons — whether out of weakness or wisdom.
Such was the life of Sabila, a woman who believed that a wife must endure everything in her marriage rather than abandon her children to uncertainty. She understood that her resolution would demand patience, sacrifice, and endurance. Yet, her husband’s constant cruelty was draining her emotionally, making her wonder if she could truly survive it — but she resolved to keep trying, swallowing pain each morning and night as she faced her reality.
 
Sabila’s Struggles
 
Sabila lived with her husband Sanusi and their two daughters, Amal and Minal, in a small house with two rooms, a tiny kitchen, and a narrow backyard. Sanusi was lazy and harsh, often sleeping late and ignoring even his prayers. That morning, when she gently woke him to discuss breakfast and the children’s school, he responded with anger, refusing to help or provide anything. Despite her calmness, his words hurt deeply.
Later, as her daughters prepared for school, she sadly told them they couldn’t go — there was no food or firewood to make breakfast. Amal, the older and more obedient one, held back tears, while playful Minal rejoiced at not going to school. Their hunger pierced Sabila’s heart, but she tried to hide her tears.
When Sanusi went out, he went straight to the tea seller’s stand, buying tea and bread for himself. Though he thought of his hungry children at home, shame stopped him from taking leftovers to them. Instead, he gave the remains to a beggar and walked away content, leaving his family starving.
Back home, Sabila silently wept as she washed dishes with plain water — she couldn’t even afford soap. She remembered her youthful days when she was admired and full of joy and now wondered — was this her fate or her mistake?
 
Yusuf’s Household
 
Not all suffering comes from men — sometimes, wives themselves fail to appreciate good husbands. Some men try their best to care for their families but meet stubborn, ungrateful partners. Others endure silently, while some make harsh decisions that change everything.
Yusuf, another man, returned home calmly, but the scene that greeted him was chaos. His large, beautiful house was scattered with children’s toys and clothes, the television and fan were on, and his wife Zubaida was nowhere in sight. When he went to the dining room, he found leftover food and bones all over the table. The only covered dish was his meal, which he took quietly to his room.
After bathing, he sat to eat, but the food was overly salty and spicy — something he had repeatedly begged his wife to stop doing. Tired and disappointed, he ate in silence, reflecting on the difference between what marriage should be and what it had become.
