ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
She was crying heavily, a heartbreaking cry that, just by listening, you knew came from the depths of her soul—the kind of weeping that no one can truly understand unless they have experienced it themselves. "Big brother Mus'af, what am I seeing? Is this real? Please tell me it's not true, tell me this card I saw isn't real, tell me it's a lie!" None of her older brothers who surrounded her said a word. The one she called Mus'af lowered his head, sighing heavily; one look at him and you could tell his manly pride was deeply wounded, and out of sheer anger, he couldn't even speak. Mami, who had no idea what was happening, had just come out of her room fully dressed and ready for work. She rushed over to them when she saw all her children huddled around Aimanah in the center. "Mansur, what happened? Why are you all surrounding Aimanah, is everything okay?" The one called Mansur quickly looked up and, without saying a word, pointed out the wedding card in his hand to Mami, then turned his gaze back to Aimanah, who was still crying as if her heart would burst. Mami quickly groped for the nearest chair and sat down as a sudden dizziness washed over her, nearly making her collapse to the floor. She immediately began reciting, "Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Didn't I warn you all about this matter? Muneer, didn't you listen to what I said?"
Mas'ud spoke up sharply, his voice tight with anger, "Mom, we weren't the ones who told her. She came into the house with it herself."
"Leave us, all of you. You, Aimanah, come here."
"Mom, but honestly, is he..." "Shut up, Mus'af!" Mami barked, her anger flaring. Furious, Mus'af stormed out of the living room as if he were about to fly off the ground. Mansur looked at Muneer and said, "Follow that boy, I don't trust his temper, you know how he is." Muneer quickly rushed out, while Mas'ud checked his watch, hissed in frustration, and left.
Ma'aruf took his younger sister's hand, helped her up, and led her over to Mami. She placed her head on Mami's lap, continuing to weep.
"Be quiet, Aimanah, stop crying so we can talk. I know, I know exactly what you are feeling, but please stop, for God's sake."
"Mom, you're telling me to be quiet?! I saw Al-Mustapha's wedding invitation card! Murja just handed it to me at the front gate, even throwing hurtful words at me."
"I hear you, stop it now, and forget about him."
