ABOUT THIS BOOK
Description
Today, the judge of the high court in Kaduna city sentenced a woman named Fatima Ibrahim to life imprisonment, on charges of killing her husband's eldest son, Nasir, by pouring boiling water all over his body, which caused all the skin on his body to peel off. He didn't last an hour at BIBA HOSPITAL before he died, right here in town.
It was the woman's husband, Alhaji Muhammad, who handed his wife over to the police, and he stood firm, insisting that he must obtain justice for the deceased against his wife's cruelty—a woman who has no fear of God whatsoever in her heart, according to the husband. Here's how our conversation with him went.
All the girls sitting in the crowded living room grew even quieter, wanting to hear how the conversation would unfold.
I came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel, I tied a small towel around my head, my face sullen, and I sat down on the three-seater cushion. Then I picked up the remote beside me and turned the radio up so loud it nearly burst our eardrums.
"What is your name, sir?" the journalist threw the question at the man they called the husband of the accused woman.
"My name is Alhaji Muhammad Yusuf," the man answered in a firm voice that showed no hesitation whatsoever.
"Today marks the end of this case, which has taken three months, between your wife Malama Fatima and your late son Nasir. What can you say about that?"
"Alhamdulillah! All praise is due to Allah (SWT) who has brought this case to an end. Truly I am filled with happiness and gratitude to Allah, because the one who was wronged has gotten his right. Women like Fatima, who have no fear of God at all in their hearts, this should serve as a lesson to them—if they have any sense. Since the moment the late Nasir, may Allah have mercy on him, confirmed to me that it was Fatima who sent for him and did this to him simply because he visited her house, as her husband's son, for the third time since he returned from studying in Malaysia... When he told me this, there weren't even twenty minutes left before Allah took his life. And I made him a promise that even if I have to walk naked, I would get him revenge. So today, I am extremely happy. As for those of her kind of character, I pray Allah guides them, and if they refuse to be guided, then may Allah scatter them wherever they are on the face of the earth."
"So what is the status of the marriage bond between you?" the journalist then threw this question at him.
"Since the day this incident happened, I severed all three marriage ties between us, and I handed her divorce papers to her even before this case concluded."
"Are there any children between you?"
"There isn't a single child between us in our two years of marriage; she never even had a miscarriage."
"Don't you think about the kind of reaction her parents might have towards you?" the journalist asked him again.
His voice, full of anger, he answered, "She was an orphan under the guardianship of her father's younger brother, who married her to me. And since he heard what she did, he has washed his hands of her, after telling her 'Allah is sufficient for the upbringing he gave her.' And even if her parents were alive, I wouldn't care about anything they might say, because no one is greater than another."
